there are a couiple of posts on hear for THD or DG-HAL both are the same thing and it's a lot less invasive than than PPH or anyother of surgery. What it does is tie up the viens that cause the Hem's and then they suture the prolapse back up to the walls of the bowel and then they shrink form lack of blood flow and simple stay there. I have posted some reporst sand outcomes on here in regards to this proceedure.

Now with the bandings the best way to eleviate the pain is take a couple of pain meds and take a VERY hot bath makes sure that wht water is over your belly so you can sort of float this will also help with peeing yep you got it pee in the bath. I have had 2 lots of banding and both time this help out the best way after a couple of hours 6-8 everthing should be a lot better, But it does take a couple of days to get used to it and up to 3weeks to return back to normal. ITS A LOT BETTER THAN SURGERY!!

I had THD, Craig. You've probably seen my other posts on this forum. THD only works for internal hems, not external. It is a wonderful solution!
The problem I ran into is that all the doctors I saw, both those covered by my insurance and those I paid out-of-pocket to see for another opinion, dismissed my inquiries about THD. They all said that stapling was the only thing they would do or recommend. It was very, very frustrating! I ended up traveling four hours to the nearest surgeon listed on the THD website and paid cash, BUT - I got EXACTLY what I wanted: very easy, quick, minimally invasive (no cutting - only suturing), and best of all immediately effective!

I obviously couldn't recommend it more highly!

Sweet mother of Pain. She is upon my Anus like a fiery dragon. This is my second rubber band ligation and the doc told me it would hurt more than the first. He wrote me a prescription for Vicodin and Valium BEFORE he even did the procedure. I was thinking what a manly man I was and how I would not need that stuff, perhaps just 1/2 an asprin or or a 1/4 shot of Jack. Well let me tell you.... Dr Procto the mad scientist with the abnormally huge hands shoved an Angry Devil Gerbil covered in Tabasco sauce and infected with the mange upon my chasm. This Angry Devil Gerbil goes by the name Rubber Band Ligation. The Evil monster within my Anus has shredded glass for fur and glowing red laser fire eyes to help in his darkened quest for peanuts. The Malicious Monster surely has barbed dirty claws and I have no doubt was hyped up on a mix of crystal Meth, battery acid and red bull before they shoved him in to destroy my ego. He is currently nesting somewhere behind my left testicle and has made himself comfortable by shredding my nether nerve endings and snacking on the fringes of my prostate. I can not sit, I can not stand, I can not pee. I now kneel here before the computer to tell you of my plight and of my greatest fear. I fear that sometime in the near future the Nachos with Jalapenos and hot salsa I had for dinner last night may come beckoning to exit upon the porcelain thrown. If this should happen it will surely be my end, for I have endured all that the mightiest of mortal men can bear and I can withstand no more.

I just had my second procedure completed. It was just as painful as the first time. However, this time I took a hot bath immediately when I got home and it really helped. I had taken my prescribed pain medication (vicodin) as soon as I left the Dr.'s office. 45 minutes later I was still in severe pain. I started a hot bath and felt better instantly. Soon into the bath I had no pain at all. The pain did start to return soon after getting out of the tub, but it was much less intense.

I was hesitant about taking sits bath's, the first time around, because I did not think they would help much and I don' have a comfortable bath tub. I could not have been more wrong. If you are having this procedure done, get into some hot water as soon as possible. My PA told me, hot tubs were also fine.

I hope this helps you

I'm recovering from a banding procedure for several hemmorhoids at the moment, but I also had a couple of other minor procedures at the same time. I had it all done under general anaesthetic, which suited me just fine! Just thought I'd let you know that if you had an anaesthetic or pain relief containing opiates, it may well disrupt bowel movements for a couple of days. This is apparently because opiates slow down the transit time through the digestive system. Heroin users have the same problem apparently. I had a general anaesthetic which contained opiates, and morphine as pain relief immediately following the procedure. I expected to have a normal bowel movement the next morning but instead was constipated and had great difficulty. The same on the second morning following the procedure. I phoned the hospital and on their advice I went to my GP and was prescribed Movicol. I don't know if you have it in the States. It comes as sachets of powder which you mix with water as a drink and take between one and three sachets a day. It's a stool softener but the advantage is that it also softens any hard stools you have sitting in your lower bowel, and brings them through as soft. It really did the trick. It's definitely an advantage to be 'on the loose side' during the recovery period. Why suffer?

When I had a hemorrhoidectomy twelve years ago, the surgeon gave me very precise instructions about laxatives to take and how to manage bowel movements during the recovery period to avoid becoming constipated and straining. But this time nothing! I had to contact the hospital after the event, see the GP and ask them what to do.

However they did give me prescription painkillers for the recovery period. I'm also surprised to hear that some people were led to expect little pain. My GP did say that the degree of pain and recovery period vary between different people, so perhaps some people genuinely do experience little pain, but the hospital acknowledged I might need painkillers and gave me enough for days. I renewed the prescription for a second lot when I saw the GP.

I notice that on this thread people have posted shortly after their procedures and then not returned to report their progress once recovered. I'll try and come back and give such a report for anyone who might be reading this!

Have your pharmacist mix the following ingredients, apply 3-4 times internally daily and after each BM externally:

1% Hydrocortisone Cream - (1) teaspoon - Anti Inflammatory
White Zinc Oxide - (1) teaspoon - Healing
Aloe Vera Gel - (1) teaspoon - Soothing and Healing
Betacaine - (1/2) teaspoon - Topical Anesthetic (I used Lidacaine single dose vials)
Vitamin E 1000 units - Healing
Friars Balsam - (10) drops - Holds connective tissue together
Nitro-paste (RX needed) (1 1/2) inches - Relaxes muscles during BM

Also take orally along with your high fiber diet:

Butchers Broom - Promotes circulation
Magnesium - Regular BM, helps with headaches possibly caused by Nitropaste, helps with muscle contractions during BM
Wheat Germ Oil - Natural source of Vitamin E
Horse Chestnut - Healthy circulation and fluid balance for lower extremities

Im telling you I had the worse case grade 4 and a fissure,, doc said surgery is your only option. Saw this recipe posted by a NASA scientist. I tried it and I cannot believe the difference. Let me know if it works for u.

Had 3 roids banded at noon Thursday which went ok with no pain so drove home fine. Took a hot sitz bath right away to be safe and just had an increasing dull ache feeling until i went to bed 10PM then woke up at 1AM with a fire burning searing pain with sphincter clenching spasms, took another bath and 1000mg Tylenol which did not really help at all. Pure agony for the next 30 hours even after a morning BM and sitz baths. Sunday morning had another BM and that helped lessen the pain by half with varying pain levels, manageable at times with Tylenol but pretty much bed ridden when it flares up. Hard to walk and difficulty urinating when the pain level is high. Monday AM almost slept the whole night except for the searing pain at 4AM, managed to sleep a bit more but cannot go into work this morning. Noticed there is more pain with the sphincter clenching spasms.

My gracious surgeon told me to go back to work Thursday after the banding and just keep stools soft for the next 24-48 hrs for the bands to fall off. That guy said it would not be painful and banding works about 50% of the time.

Called my naturopath before and was told to promote healing avoid coffee and alcohol and take high doses of Vitamin C with bioflavonoids. To help your body heal eat high fiber, soft foods such as banana's, up to two TBSP freshly ground flax seeds in yogurt, regular oatmeal(NOT quick/instant varieties) and drink lots of liquids, chamomile tea really helps you relax and sleep. Take Tylenol for pain if required.

UPDATE: Had a minor BM Monday afternoon and apparently the painful hem fell off as there was some bleeding!!! Now i can move around and clench my sphincter muscles without any PAIN so this one roid(hopefully the last of three) was causing all the remaining discomfort. Amazing immediate relief and feel normal again, its been about an hour after the last BM so just had to wait it out. Time to celebrate with a shot of prune juice.

I had 4 bands done yesterday. I thought the day before was bad when I was starving on the liquid diet and laxitives. I waited 4 hours at the hospital before the doctor was ready for me :-S I don't understand why they gave me a 10:30am appointment instead of 2pm when I had to drive in an hour and was not told that I would not be able to work that day or today (today is Friday). 8-| Having the bands placed on was incredibly painful. When he was done I felt horrible like I was gonna puke or pass out but they told me I could go home. So I left and they gave me no post op instructions so I had no idea what to expect. The drive home was horrible and the rest of the day was horrible. I took ibuprofen and lots of gravol. I was in alot of pain and incredible nauseated. I was happy that the gravol would knock me out. So I phoned the healthline and the nurse was very helpful. she told me to take a sitz bath every couple hours, use and ice pack on the area, get a doughnut pillow to sit on, keep taking the ibuprophen and eat very light( like toast, yogurt), lots of water( I opted for ginger ale) and call the doctor in the morning if I'm still in pain. The sitz bath has helped alot although it was along night of sleeping( if I could) and bathing. I feel alot baetter today sitting on my doughnut pillow, taking ibuprophen and sitz baths. I also have been drinking some powerade to get my electrlytes back to normal. I am not sure if I would have this done again.

It is Sunday and last Wednesday I had 2 hemorroids banded and so far so good. I have had some disconfort during bowl movements but the pain medicine my doctor rx seems to help. I was just wondering how long does it normally take for the hemorroids to fall out. I was told 7-10 days but wanted to find out what others that have had this procedure have experienced. I guess the best way to find out if you see the hemorroid and band in the toilet but if you miss this what if any symptons would be present to tell me that the hemorroid has come out.

Had 3 bands put on yesterday, so maybe about 26 hours ago, wouldnt say it was pain more like discomfort and a full feeling at 1st, however was walking like John Wayne, found the best place to sit was the toilet so spent a few hours there. Went to work next day as a truck driver!!!
However am not going in now until next week, felt sick and pretty rough.
Hot bath has helped with the discomfort, but can honestly say no real pain, had calf cramps that are far far worse.
Passed BM last night and 3 today all pretty soft with some blood but nothing compared to what i had before procedure, surgeon told me the piles would shrivel and drop off in about 10 days, with possible heavy bleeding which should stop!!! Have found that germaloids ointment helps with discomfort as it has an anethsetic in it.
Am due to go back in 6 weeks for repeat proceedure, will see how it goes.

Wasnt painful having 1st 2 bands put on but the guy had to press pretty hard for the 3rd one, again more discomfort..................
