I've been on adderall for about 11 years now, i started when I was about 10, my grades went from C's and D's to all A's, about 3 years ago I started having some heart palpitations, (when it feels like you're heart skips a beat and pounds really hard) and sometimes, if i took an adderall and I didn't actually have much to do that day, my heart would beat so hard that it was all I could feel, and if I were to sit down somewhere in an unsupported position, I would feel and notice myself rocking back and forth a little from the strength of my heart beat.
For me, i started on 20's and got upped to 30's, and now they work perfectly for me everyday, in a way you build up a tolerance as opposed to someone just starting to take it for the first time, but not in the sense that you have to keep upping the dosage. You just gotta find which mg works for you. As far as addiction, its certainly not like you go through withdrawl or anything when stopping it.. But you do kind of get it in your mind after years of taking it that you can't get as much done in a normal day or that you can't get things done as fast as you would be able to ON the adderall. Also, you may experience weight gain when you quit taking it, because adderall severely suppresses the appetitie, but it's a weight gain you CAN CONTROL YOURSELF. As far as long term effects? Just like how females are only born with a certain number of eggs.. You're heart only beats so many times in your life. Which is why after 11 years now, I need to try and find something else that's at least half as good as adderall because I plan to do a lot in my lifetime.

I am 32 years old and I have been taking ADD for 15 years. Below is how I have stopped myself from becoming an ADD abuser.

-DONT TAKE EXTRA PILLS! DONT TAKE EXTRA PILLS! DONT TAKE EXTRA PILLS! DONT TAKE EXTRA PILLS!

-ONLY TAKE IT WHEN YOU NEED IT! I use it for work so I take it Monday-Friday, that's it NO WEEKENDS! Add free weekends help stop your tolerance from growing.

-Plan a 1 week detox every 2-4 Months. Try and plan your detox around holidays or vacations.
•I detox 3 times a years:
•July 4th
•Christmas
•Spring Break

-Every year or so change what kind of Add you take. If you take XR (time released) switch to Reg, If you take Reg switch to XR.

-Don't start taking other drugs to counter act Add's effects. No sleeping pills and no anti-anxiety pills. Once you start taking those your screwed!!

-How to maximize Add effects
•Take on an empty stomach
•Don't eat for at least 2 hours after taking
•Don't take drug with acidic drinks i.e. OJ, Coffee, grapefruit juice.....
•Take drug 1 hour before you need to become "the Man" or "Woman" that way you don't waste the effects at home or on your commute.

-Bottom line, be smart and don't allow yourself to abuse. If you do slip up (I've have tons of times in the past 17 years) fix it ASAP. The longer you abuse the harder it is to fix.
Add is a great drug that allows you to become the person you were meant to be. Use it responsibly and you'll be fine.

When I was in my teens I started out taking 15mg. In college I switched to 40mg/daily and that is where I have stayed since I was 19.

I've been on Adderall for 25 years- Ritalin 2 years prior to that, and I put almost full blame of my current condition / situation on the continuous intake of that/those medications. I feel like it ends up wreaking havoc on ur own being. I mean, physically, because you tend to minimize, ignore, push thru (so-to-speak) most pain-related symptoms that only get worse & then ALL of a SuDDeN hit you- & in a FAR worse way than what it WOULD have been - had the problem been addressed sooner, if not immediately!!
Next, it has extremely damaging effects to one's own psyche & emotional/mental capacities! That goes so far in, that I won't even go there - fearing i may never get out!!
Another effect from taking amphetamines for a long period of time is its negative effect on our physiological and biological care and health of our bodies (I know, that doesn't make sense - but I can't think of the words to use to explain what it is that I'm trying to explain... I have MULTIPLE chronic disorders, in HORRIBLE physical & mental health which is working simultaneously AGAINST physical appearance creating a sense of disgust and bias from those i come in contact with- NOT too mention, the loss of self-EVERYTHING [GOOD] {i.e; *-esteem, *-respect, *-confidence, *-discipline, *-control, *-WORTH, etc...} MOSTLY BECAUSE I HAVE LIKE, 4 TEETH! Which I feel is the single WORST part of taking adderall for so long- the loss of bone density causing (but not limited to) soft teeth, which DoES NoT do well with the common side effect of anxious teeth-grinding!!
I AM NOT IN A GOOD PLACE, SO IF THERE HAPPENS TOO BE ANYONE, ANYONE AT ALL, THAT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A.D.D. AT A YOUNG AGE AND WAS PRESCRIBED AMPHETAMINES OVER THE PAST 20+ YEARS, I'D REALLY LIKE TO SPEAK WITH YOU, PLEASE! I would love some pointers on how to live like a "normal functioning member of society"- because seriously, I'm just not living anymore, ya know?! And I just struggle to trust anyone whom doesn't know what it feels like to have been prescribed a DRUG that does ALL the BRAIN work for someone 82% of their whole life- {Again, if that even makes sense!... Which, I'm sure it does to the ones that I'd like it to matter... to...?} I DO apologize for my rambling tangents, I guess I just needed to get it out that i feel completely alone in this hopeless, helpless, HuMaNLeSS world!
