I have been on the pill for my whole adult life with the exception of when I wanted to have my baby. I am now 50 years old and have been told I'm in menopause after having blood work done, although I have no symptoms and still have a period. I was told this is because of the pill. I was advised to go off the pill because being menopausal, I'm putting too many unnecessary homones into my body and it could cause a stroke. My concern is pregnancy. Having always used the pill, I have no desire to try another form of birth control. I am in a new relationship where the sex is wonderful. Is there a safer pill I can use for this situation while I wait out menopause?

After a blood test, the practice nurse said to me that I am now menopausal, and that I should now come off the birth control pill, and will no longer get pregnant. Is that true?
