This weekend, I had intercourse for the 1st time since my varicocelectomy about a month ago. I didn't want to rush anything, but now I'm really scared....My sperm has changed colour. It used to be a grey/white and now I've noticed that it's more a yellowish white? Is this something that will go away with time, i.e., once I flush(???) them out completely, leftovers from the surgery or is this an abnormal complication? I still have some pain sometimes when I'm walking and I can't quite run yet due to the pain. The pain is a 4 on a scale of 10. Thanks.

Hi

A normal result of the surgery is that the quality of your semen has changed. That might result in a slight color change. However, the "yellowish" color might be a concern. How long did the doctor say you might have pain? Is your continued pain and pain level within the normal time frame? Did you follow the recommended waiting period for sexual intercourse? Infection would be a concern if you did not. How vigorously are you walking and should you be engaging in vigorous activity at this time. These things would affect your condition at this time. Check on these things with your surgeon and be sure that you are attending your follow-up activities. Again, the yellowish color might be a concern. Think about these questions and then see your surgeon for answers. He/she will probably want to know these things as well.
