Ask your doctor for the smallest dosage and get yourself a good pill splitter. Plan on taking several months to withdraw. Allow at least one month per increment change before you go down. I was put on another antidepressant hoping this would help. Nope. It took me over 2 months again to withdraw from the pill I took for about 4 months. Be careful, slow, and tell your doctor your wishes. Make sure everything is documented. Best of luck.

I was prescribed Effexor in about 2003 for Fibromyalgia. My doctor told me that it was believed to help with the symptoms, so I started taking it. After about a year, it did absolutely nothing so I told my doctor I was going to quit. All he said was, just take one every other day for a few days, then quit.
Omg, I never experienced anything so horrible in my life! The sweats, the "Effexor Head", (You know what that is, the zzzzt, zzzzt, with the dizziness, loss of balance, nausea, vomiting).
I quickly took my next days dose the next night and decided to Tay on it until I went back to the MD.
Now, I've been an RN for about 40 years, so I just figured I need to go more slowly. Next visit, I asked for tablets so I could cut them up, thinking if I just took 1/4 less per week, it would be okay.
I made it through a week, with minimal discomfort but the next week...BAM.
So I had to start over. This time I gave it a month. There just seems to be a level I can't go under.
Since then, I've told a few different doctors about it, and all I get are shrugs. There doesn't seem to be anything to be done.
No one told me I'd never be able to get off this junk!
It appears the Effexor folks have created a captive market, and we are at their mercy. I have to make sure I have at least a month or two backup supply because I'm scared to death I'll die if I can't get it for whatever reason. Effexor has created it's own captive customers.
Ithe is a nightmare and I want JUSTICE

You can get off of them. But, be prepared to have troubles for years to come. Please expect to take at least 4 months to withdrawal. I don't know your original dosage, but try to give yourself at least two to three weeks before going to the next lower dosage. Whatever you do, you can't ever go back on another antidepressant. This one ruined it for you.
I went on Zoloft, and I had a very difficult time weaning off of that pill, not nearly as bad as the Effexor, however, I had problems going on it and problems coming back off of it. It's not worth the horrendous side effects. Keep working on it and don't give up.

I was persribed Effexor after having a stroke to stave off PTSD, after having the so-called Doctor take me off of Effexor my life has been more of a living hell, than the stroke ever caused I have a pain specialist whom believes infaticly that this condition also known as PGAD is a result of taking Effexor. So please let me know if you find enough people to file a class action lawsuit.

I took a Effexor Xr for six years. This drug totally ruined my life. I'm not sure you would call it with drawls anymore because with drawls will stop at some point wouldn't they? I have been off of the Strug for about seven years now and I have what sounds like electrocutions and short-circuits going on in my brain. Not to mention it made me not care about anything at all I mean anything including my responsibilities. It has made my life go down in the gutter since the first day I took it. I want to be a part of a lawsuit as well please somebody let's make this happen

I am currently also looking for any lawyers that are taking the Venlafaxine in a lawsuit for the damages that it has caused every one of us on this page. I too like Jeff have suffered very Vivid nightmares, severe panic attacks, mood swings and hallucinations. and that is mild compared to the damage that it has done to my eyes & being able to see properly. When visiting my optometrist I found out that both of my eyes have formed cataracts on my eyes causing my vision to be impaired. when asking my doctor what had caused this she replied with what type of medication have you been taking to which I told her I had been to which I told her I had been on Venlafaxine for over a year. she then stated that that medication was causing pressure behind my eyes which entail cause the development of cataracs.. so then on top of everything else because I have become disabled & on government health insurance. is.. Medicare.. my optometrist told me to just go buy a pair of readers instead of giving me the prescription glasses that I needed for my vision impairment. please keep me on the list if you find any lawsuits for this medication and if I find a lawyer that will take the cases I will also let you know by posting back to this page.
