hey! my boyfriend and i were having sex last night when all of a sudden he heard something snap.. when we were done we saw that there was a large amount of blood on his penis, we finally realized that his frenulum was completely torn. his questions are how long will it take to heal? hes a lifeguard so will swimming affect it? is there anything he can do to make it heal faster? will this keep happening everytime we have sex?
thanks for your help!

Hi, this happened to me 10 days ago, WELCOME TO THE CLUB!

Mine cured within 4 days, it was still painful to touch and I tried not to move it/touch it unless neccessary.

Fearing a risk of infection, I went to the doctor, he looked at it, told me it would  heal in 3-5 days, then prescribed me some fucidin ointment to prevent infection/"keep things from sticking"

I have full use back now without pain though he looks slightly different. I have yet to have sex so can't tell you about odds of recurrence.

Not sure about swimming, but I'd suggest to go hit up a doctor just in case as it's a very sensitive area and infection could be a pain in the a... well, you know ;).

I tore mine several times right after I got married. The first time I just let it heal by itself and it healed back together so it was just as short as before. After that, when it tore I kept the ends from healing back together so when it healed over it was a little longer. After a few times of that it was as though I never had a frenulum and I can now pull my foreskin all the way back so the tip is down at the bottom of the shaft, with no pain at all.

This is terrific during sex as it allows the inner foreskin to get stretched as I reach the end of a thrust and that feels great. The inner foreskin is stretch sensitive and that allows it to fullfill it's purpose. It's really wonderful to be able to pull the foreskin back tight enough to stretch it without any pain.

That all happened over 45 years ago and I never worried about infection. I put something on it to keep the ends from attaching back together but I don't remember what it was, probably just toilet paper.

I completely tore mine off yesterday. I noticed you said you let it heal without letting it re-attach itself. What procedures should I take to make that happen. I don't want to let it attach itself again.

It was a looong time ago but I think I used toilet paper. I just put a small piece of it on the tear while my foreskin was back, then I rolled it forward to it's normal position to hold the tp in place. I think I may have changed it a couple times to keep it from becoming stuck in case the two sides tried to heal together through the tp. There never was a problem with that happening. It worked well and it's like heaven being able to retract all the way down without any pain or pulling. I'm glad it happened when I was young and I figured out a way to fix it. I'd hate to think about 30 or 40 or 50 years of living with a frenulum that causes pain during intercourse or masturbation.

You shouldn't need a doctor, just let it heal.

I completely tore my frenulum at 17, now at 26 I enjoy the full length of my foreskin for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
It works so great actually, that I wonder if surgically cutting the frenulum is a good alternative to full circumcision.
