Recently I started to use birth control pills and I have been experiencing spotting. I was really worried about that so I took a blood test but the results were ok. How is spotting different from bleeding and what can cause this? Would it help if I stop using these pills? What should I do?

Spotting or bleeding in the first six months of birth control pill use is common and we can say normal. What happens is that your body is getting used to constant level of hormones. Spotting is a case where amount of blood is so little that women don’t need to use pads or tampons. The color of blood can vary from pink to brow. The amount of blood will decrease the longer you take the pills. The best thing to do is to take the pill at the same time every day. Spotting can be caused by many factors like infections, signs of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, placental problems or premature labor etc. You can also spot or bleed after sexual intercourse if you have a cervical polyp. In some cases the causes of spotting remain unknown. Remember, all women are individuals and for you to be absolutely sure about you condition you should visit your gynecologist.

Hi there guest, I think that you are right in your guess that the brown discharge is based on the birth control that you are currently taking. I think that's the reason because the hormones in each one do have a different reaction on your body so that's likely the cause. If you could, just let me know how you're doing and tell me if it's possible that you can switch to a different BC. Keep me posted okay?
