Hi, I would like to discuss about my father's back pain. He strained his back several weeks ago and it looks like the pain is still present. We went to a doctor and he was prescribed with Vicodin. The situation became a bit better, but he said that he feel his tongue getting numb. Could Vicodin be the reason for this?

Vicodine is actually a combination of two drugs – acetaminophen and hydrocodon. It is used for subduing strong pain (as pain reliever). The symptom you have mentioned are not that common and we might be talking about allergic reaction to some of the substances in the medicament. Perhaps he should stop with the therapy and ask for a different treatment.
