I have had the same issue as everyone who has posted on here. My prescription only mentioned taking the pills twice daily and with a full glass of water. So I took a pill right before I went to bed with a full glass of water. I made two mistakes here: 1) I layed down to quickly after taking the pill. After further looking into it, you should wait at least 30 mins after taking the pill before laying down. The antibiotic is too strong for the esophageal lining to handle (as opposed to our stomachs were bile can break it down). 2) Took on a moderately empty stomach. My doctor later let me know that you should always take it after a meal.

After having experienced a full 5 hours of on and off vomitting and continual pain in my chest/esophagus, I finally received word back from my doctor. She mentioned that the doxycycline burned the lining of my esophagus and that it would repair itself within a couple of days.

So for you any of you with this pain, I'd double check with your doc to see if you should continue with the meds and hang in there (you'll feel like this for awhile).

Good luck!
