Hi! Actually, the oldest DMD survivor goes to my church here in Saraland, Alabama. His name is Billy Graham and he is 62 years old. He's blind and in a wheelchair but no trach. He is an amazing man of God and incredible leader in our church!!

My brother has Duchenne MD and was diagnosed with a muscle biopsy when he was 6. He walked until he was 13 and then became wheelchair bound at that time after a spinal fusion. He was able to breathe on his own until just before graduating college at age 21, and then he had a trach. He will be turning 51 next week (January 2017). He can't move a finger, but spends the day in his Electric wheelchair and is on the ventillator at all times. He's very mobile and leaves the house every day for short periods of time....errands, movies, mall, restaurants, etc. He has 24 hour nursing care and lives at home with my mother. It seems that his condition plateaued after he went on the trach. He has the heart of a regular 50 year old (even though his heart was suffering and declining before the trache). Now my mother is becoming elderly (80) and we are worried about his care in the future as I have my own family and responsibilities. We never thought he would make it this far based on what doctors predicted his lifespan to be when diagnosed.
