I have a son with Dushane Muscular Dystrophy. He turned 41 yesterday, Sept.13,2008. I was told he would not live to be a teen ager, and I have always read that 20 years was the most to expect to for. Is there anyone eles that has lived this long with this disese?

Becker's Muscular Dystrophy has symptoms similar to that found in Dushane Muscular Dystrophy, and both are the expressions of sex-linked recessive genes. However, BMD progresses much slower than DMD. While DMD patients live to be their 30s, BMD patients typically live to be 50 to 60 years old and beyond. With regular physical therapy and proper nutrition, I won't be surprised at all that your son will live to a ripe old age.
