I am now 33 yrs old and I have a 9 year old that I had taken effexor xr 150mg. Everything went well during my pregnacy. But after bringing him home for a day we ended up having to take hime to urgent care do to him jerking really bad. They had stated that he was having with drawls from the effexor. he was in the hospital for a total of 4 days. They had to keep close eye on him. To this day he has problems. he is a very smart boy, but has been diagnosed with bathroo issues. They stat that it could be due to the effexor, The nerves are dead between his colleen and rectum. So he cant since he has to go.

I say all antidepressents are bad when you are pregnate.

Please try to taper/wean off effexor if you are pregnant. I was on effexor for 9 years and got pregnant, my ob Dr told me it was fine to be on it pregnant. I was otherwise healthy except for my anxiety issues. I remained on 75mg xr effexor and my son was stillborn with heart defects at 37 weeks. Do NOT take this horrific medication pregnant ! I know it is so so soooo hard to get off with many side effects, but it is worth it. I completed my weaning process in august 2011 and got pregnant again in November 2011 and carried a healthy baby boy to term. He is 14 months now and healthy as can be.

I also had a positive experience. I gave birth to my daughter this year at 36 wks after taking 75mg of Effexor daily throughout the entire pregnancy. I worried myself sick for the whole 9mo. My daughter's apgar scores were 7/8. She never had to go to the NICU and was released with me from the hospital at 2days old. I am still watching her like a hawk but so far she is perfect. She eats good and sleeps good. It's an answered prayer.

My Dr said the same to me, that it would cause more harm to the baby if I stopped or weaned myself off he effexor. He suggested I continued to take 60mg a day. My son was born at 34 weeks and is now 4. He has a articulate speech and lanuuage disorder and a learning disability. Im beginning to think it was the effexor. I don't know Wat to do? I feel its the drs fault for telling me it's OK to take while being pregnant

I had my family doctor refer me to a reproductive psychiatrist at a renowned hospital, and when she reviewed my case (bipolar 2, bordering on 1, taking Lamotrigine 250 and Effexor 225), she told me that those medications are two of the most studied medications, and two of the safest to be on during pregnancy. It's her job to read the studies and weight the risks vs benefits, and I trust her information. I did NOT want to take medication while pregnant, but I know wht happens when I'm not on the medication, and I know that my baby's health would be t risk if I had bipolar episodes while pregnant. I'm 12 weeks now, and my Hcg levels are high (a good thing), heartbeat is strong, and size is right on track. Please, anyone reading this, remember that most often, people who have bad experiences take to the Internet to share, while those who had good experiences tend to just carry on and are less likely to spread the word online. Best of luck to anyone making the difficult decision to take meds or not during pregnancy, and don't beat yourself up if you choose to keep taking them.

My personal experience is, I was taking 300mg of Effexor XR when i became pregnant.  I was told it would be safe during pregnancy, and the withdrawals would be more harmful to both of us.

My son was born 10 weeks early, non-responsive, global delay, and has now been diagnosed as Autistic since he was 1.5 years old.

I have since weaned myself off ALL chemical pharmaceutical drugs 4 years ago.  My mind is clear.  The power of the mind and determination can do A N Y T H I N G.

I have been on Effexor with 2 pregnancies both my boys came out perfect and have never had any probelms at all.
All doctors I saw said it was fine to take and that a lot of women take it during pregnancy .
And also told it's safe while Breast feeding .

I took Effexor Sr at recommendation of my dr. During 3rd trimester I picked up my bottle & saw for the 1st time the sticker which states "taking this medication during the 3rd trimester may cause possible birth defects". I stopped immediately. My son was born seemingly healthy, birth weight slightly low in my opinion (6 lbs. 1 ounce). He didn't start talking until about 2.5, almost 3 years old. He was diagnosed with autism @ age 5. I blame Effexor, my dr. and most strongly- myself.
I say GET OFF ANY MEDS NOT DEEMED LIFE OR DEATH.
Thank you. Sorry to "YELL". This affects my heart, mind & soul everyday of my life. Did my naivety& blind trust cause a life of social hardships & learning difficulties for my son? Very possibly. Do YOU want to live the rest of YOUR life wondering those things- praying every nighy & day he is not suffering??
Didn't think so. If you question it in ANY way, you know the answer. STOP.
