That reduction is far to much, please look at my other posts below.
Check out Cymbalta hurts worse on face book for support. Although its a different SSRI medication, the tapering method is the same, and will help you get off of Effexor.

also been on effexor for 16 years, low dose usually. the highest I have been on is 75mg, mostly 37.5 went on 75 for a couple months and it gave me high blood pressure and racing heart, so dropped to 37.5 and been there for 2 months. Been going thru withdrawls for 2 months, A year ago I weaned down to try to get off and ever since then I have been on a roller coaster with withdrawls. Lost my job with all this mess. Sick of nausea, dizzy and just not normal. The dizzy, off balance feeling is enough to drive you crazy, can't drive, can't do anything. I do take xanax once in awhile for the anxiety it gives me. Please let me know how your doctor is going to change you to sertaline. I am cross dosing. hope it works, I am very sensitive to meds. Praying alot.

Hi I saw your posts and thought I would comment. My friend has been Effexor xr free for 8 years. The taper was slow over one year. I would suggest joining a support group, theres a few on face book "Cymbalta hurts worse" is a good one, although the medication is different, the withdrawal procedure is very similar. They always say don't reduce the dose more than 10 per cent at any one time. Also check out Ann Blake Tracey. Shes also very experienced with SSRIS and the damage they can cause.
There is also a class action in Australia for any Australians that started antidepressants when they were 18 years or under and had adverse effects. The Australian antidepressant class action is also on face book, they have some good support tips.. Also check out surviving antidepressants website.

Not sure what the doctor is going to do, it has been a year since this mess started and everyone is just starting to think i'm crazy.
I'm not, have been at the same job going on 36 years. Last year when they tried taking me off due to side effects I ended up in the ER a few times, couldnt sleep for about 5 months and completely flatlined where I couldn't feel one ounce of joy.
They now have me on 22.5 of Mirtazipine, the only thing that could get me to sleep.
NOW I tried coming down on that one and can't do it without nonstop sobbing....and still on the 37.5 IR Venlafaxine.
If I could close my eyes and never wake up I would. Still have depression, which I never had before these drugs I had GAD.,,,and my head feels terrible.
Please let me know how you are cross tapering and with what.
I'm still waiting to hear back from my provider.

I too was put on Effexor for depression & anxiety. I only took it for maybe 3 weeks when I started having suicidal thoughts, my depression became even more profound & I started having Night Terrors within 5 to 15 minutes after falling asleep. I being in the medical field knew I needed to wean myself off so I started taking 10 beads out, then 20, 30 over a 2 week time. The withdrawals were horrific to the point where I was questioning my sanity. It has been over a year,I still get the feeling of electrical shocks in my entire body, muscle aches that never go away, headaches, short term memory loss, slurred speech & dizziness amongst other issues. If someone would have informed me of all this I would never had taken it. To me it's like taking poison, never again will I trust a drug company to tell the truth. This should not be on the market period.

I was on Effexor (Venlafaxine) for many years. I AM NOW OFF OF THIS DRUG after 2 YEARS very slowly, weaning down my dose because of the miserable withdrawal effects. I AM STILL EXPERIENCING horrible withdrawal/side effects 3 MONTHS LATER, after taking my last dose !
I can't believe this drug is still torturing me !
Some effects that HAVE NOT went away
are : hot flashes, sweating, confusion, and dizziness.
Here are some examples of the effects that started happening to me towards the end months of weaning down off of Effexor and HAVE NOT went away : anxiety, RAPID HEART RATE, CHEST PAINS, sudden sharp body pains and more !
I hope to warn anyone considering taking Effexor or a medication similar to it . NOBODY TELLS YOU THAT IT IS HARDER TO STOP TAKING EFFEXOR, THAN IT IS TO STOP USING HEROIN, METHADONE, SUBOXONE, OR OXYCONTIN.

Remember if you are in Australia, there is a class action on facebook for anyone that started antidepressants when they were 18 years or under. Look for Australian antidepressants class action, the page is trying to create more awareness about the dangers of antidepressants.

I started on 300 mg a day 10 yrs ago. I noticed urinary incontinence, seizures, almost cant see. My doctor weaned me down to 150 a day and then I tried to go lower and I just had to stay on it because it was better than the withdrawal. Is there any way to get off this without the effect. really. I have even gotten worse depression where I think about ending it all.

I know how you feel. like nobody can help and your at a lost. I am struggling getting off effexor, went on zoloft and its been hell for 2 weeks. Just called my doctor again today, Maybe I need more zoloft. This is bull. sorry to hear about how you feel too I can relate. Reading good stuff on here helps a little. I wish the US was doing a lawsuit on effexor too.

I tried 2 years ago to wean off then started having withdrawls so of course they put me back on effexor, tried lexapro and zoloft, couldn't take the side effects. so here it is 2 years later and effexor is not working, so now I am on zoloft and going thru hell. God help us all, I don't know from day to day if I can survive another day of feeling like this, I just keep going, but it is so hard. But have to keep trying the sertraline, Its all I got left. Good luck and let me know if you find annything to help with the side effects.

Hi please join the Cymbalta hurts worse support group on facebook, they always say to never step down anymore than 10 per cent of the medication at one time. Magnesium is good to help flush the medications, out of your body and fish oils help with the brain zaps.
