Kyle:
Glad to hear things went well and that you had no pain.
Buster's recommendations are right on.
Kiegels are a must do!! If you have not been doing them start now and do them frequently. If you are not familiar as to the correct way to do them then just google for instructions.
I also practiced stopping my flow briefly each time I urinated as a strengthening exercise.
If you have concerns or questions that are not answered here then don't hesitate to contact your doctor. It seems that doctors that do HoLep are usually very good about post op communications and problem solving.
Hang in there. You are still very fresh post op.
Thanks for the update and keep them coming.

Had HoLEP two days ago. After your procedure, when did you begin to feel urge to pee and able to control things? I am in Depends. Woke up about every three hours last night to change the nappy. Also when were you able to have sex? Thanks

One of the side effects during healing is urgency incontinence. There are a lot of nerves in the prostate that need to heal. I can remember having a feeling of electric charges in my prostate and then needing to pee. It went on for a couple of months.

As for you second question I can’t answer that due to my age.

Had HoLEP on Dec 4. It is now Monday and still no bowel movement. Drank seems really, took a stool softener, and I dose of Miralax. So far only feels like I need to go. Afraid to strain because told not to, anyone have this issue and if so what worked?

I received the same advise. I used a strong stool softener. Walking type exercise helps. I recently found out if you eat candy sweetened with stevia that does a great job. Walmart sells Russel Stover sugar free candy sweetened with stevia.

Good luck.

Did you get your bowels in order? If not my wife and I (both critical care nurses) recommend: 1) increased fluid intake; 2) Dulcolax laxative; 3) disimpaction if you feel impacted; 4) 2 fleets enemas 5) increased fiber in diet; 6) repeat the previous suggestions with increased dose of Dulcolax; 7) If still no results notify your doctor.

Thank you for the good advice. I had a couple of small movements this AM, day 4 after surgery. Will try your recommendations . Also may try Milk of Magnesia. Main thing is I don’t want to strain.

Agreed --- Milk of Mag is an excellent choice, and it is gentle compared to others. You are correct in avoiding straining.

HoLEP surgery five days ago, little bowel movement. Took Senna tea, Miralax, and stool softener with little results. Last night took Milk of Magnesia. Four AM, four days worth came out. What a relief. That product is the best. I want to tell all men with prostate issues to look into HoLEP as the nest option for large prostates.

Did you have a tender urethra after surgery? I have noticed last two mornings I woke up with “morning wood” but it felt a bit painful. Dr said I could be with my wife two weeks after surgery as long as no blood is present. I know the erection part will not be an issue, but I am concerned how fast the urethra will heal and when pain during erection will go away. I just wonder if two weeks is too realistic, though my mind is hoping and willing. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing. How long did you wait before you were with your wife? Any issues. I am one week after surgery. Urethra is very tender. When I wake up with “morning wood”, it feels a bit painful. Handout says sex is ok after two weeks if no blood is present . Just wonder how realistic that is. Thanks.

Also in Canada. Local surgeon Dr. Vladimir Ruzhynsky specialises in HoLEP. I had it done a week and a half ago. 63 years old. Great results. Covered by Medicare; not sure what your own situation is but one doesn't pay for surgeries here. Now, day 11. 4 hours post catheter-removal I peed properly, and voluminously !. No change since then. Minimal blood in urine, for about 2-3 days. Now none. Some post pee bladder spasm for a couple days but NOTHING like the bladder spasms I had when wearing any of the 3 catheters I had to use from September until Dec 18 surgery. PS: HoLEP was recommended only for BPH; no signs of cancer. Erections normal. Haven't tried sex yet. I joined this thread to see if ejaculation is ok or should one wait? Answer seems to be: it's ok. Avoid sex with a partner cos of the strain in core area. Solo apparently fine. Go for it. Soldier on, gentlemen.

I had HoLEP on Dec 4, so 3 1/2 weeks ago. My wife and I did outward stuff until day 17 after surgery when I felt ok to enter her. my urethra was still tender, but it was ok. It had been 5 weeks since penetration because I had a catheter before surgery. It was great to finally enjoy my wife fully. Only down size was the dry climax. We had sex again yesterday and all was good. I just have to get used to retrograde ejaculation. It’s a trade off. I am 68, so just have to realize this is the way it is. There is still a climax, just not as intense. The sperm goes onto the bladder and comes out later. I still wear guards for some leakage , but it seems to be improving. I am sleeping through the night. Urethra feels better than is has since surgery. Yes, Medicare and the supplement pays it all in the States.

Hi - I am in Winnipeg and know only my own experience. Because this is a medium sized city, not as prominent on the radar as Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, the fact that I could be referred to a surgeon who specialized in HoLEP surgery tells me that there have to be many surgeons around the country who perform it. Check around. PS: results are, here at day 11, fantastic.
