Hello, just prescribed to this thread. I intend to have Holep as soon as possible after October 20th, 2014. I'm in Texas, apparently an urological backwater and I'm sure I will be flying out of state in order to meet with a Doctor who is heavily experienced in the Holep-procedure. . So, far I learned of Dr Lindeman, Dr Miller, Dr Krugman and Dr Das. Are there any others I should consider. There is a Dr Roehrborn in Dallas but I'm really put off by not being able to even reach his scheduler by phone. Has there been any experience with this Doctor related on this forum? Is there any way I can search this forum for His name or other Doctors?

Hello Guest, to aid in communication ,choose a user name . There is another site on Steadyhealth ,Best Drs. for HOLEP. You might find a Dr there. I was a patient of Dr Lingeman . I highly recommend him ,his staff and Methodist Hospital. Dr. Lingeman trained many of the surgeons currently doing HOLEP. I believe both of the surgeons at The Mayo clinics, Minn. and Az. Were trained by Dr Lingeman. If I could not get Dr Lingeman to do my surgery, I would want someone he trained to do it . I believe He trained the surgeon at the Univ of Maryland , Vanderbilt, Both Mayo clinics . There are videos on youtube showing the procedure. Inform yourself by watching them. All the best . just me again

Hi Jack, Have you found the answer to your question? I looked into Dr John Wei. I was impressed by his credentials . The cost of having an inexperienced Dr do your surgery can be a lifetime of incontinence. If I could not have Dr Lingeman do my surgery, my next choice would be one of his students. All the best. just me

Hi Just me. I do have to say that I was VERY satistfied with Dr. Akhil Das here in Philly. There was some back and forth here about a year ago about whether Dr. Lingerman taught Dr. Das or vice versa but "googling" found there are joint articles. I know that Dr. Das performs many of these and seems to be one of the few on the East Coast. If I had to factor in travel to get the surgery done, I might have delayed it. It was DENTIST who told me about the HoLep at Jefferson here in Philly. My GP at Pennsylvania Hospital (the other big Med Center in Philly) didn't know about it and neither did the Penn urologist who had me on Flomax and Avodart for almost 12 years. Just my opinion.

And, I do agree that anyone joining us should select a user name for better communication.

Hi, Just Me Again. I haven't had anyone on this site who has written in to say he has had Holep with Dr. Wei. He is very involved with clinical trials and research at U of M and only operates one day a week. I hope someone who has had Holep by Dr. Wei will write in. Thanks for the advice. Jack.

I headed to Nashville for the HoLEP procedure with Dr. Nicole Miller this weekend. Surgery to take place Monday morning the 13 of October. Dr. Miller and her staff have been wonderful to date. I had been diagnosed with a 237 g prostate and bladder stones from a urologist at University Hospital in Cleveland. Seems Dr. Miller and the CAT scan found no bladder stones and a prostate of 350 g. If looking for a urologist for HoLEP I would call Dr. Lingmans office in Indiana. They highly recommended Dr. Miller. She has performed over 400 HoLEP procedures with half of these being over 200 g.

I am two weeks post HoLEP. I am doing great. Void stream is strong. I feel like a teenager. No detectable blood in urine. Just a touch of a burning sensation at the end of voiding, but that gets better every day. I feel like a new man. No more meds!!!!! I am still getting up at night, but I'm still taking in lots of water so I can't fairly judge that yet. I will start cutting back on liquids in the evening and then I will see if I can make thru the night without getting up.

Hi Guest ("two weeks Post Holep"). That's great news. Keep us posted Can I again suggest that you create a screename to use here so we can identify the various posts. It only takes a minute and you can hide yiur real name. This has been a very friendly and supportive group and it's more personal if we have some kind of "handle" to respond to you by. What I like about this website is that they don't "ding" yiu with ads but yiu get an email when there is a new posting. I;m not addressing this to just you (as differentiated from our long time - and very knowledgeable member "just me" ) but anyone would would like to make the most of this forum. No pressure, it's just more porsonal.

Glad to hear your news.! As time goes by , your bladder will retrain itself and the midnight trips to the bathroom will diminish. I slept through the night last night after 9 hours and did not get up once.. This procedure in the hands of a WELL TRAINED Dr, Regardless who he or she is , is truly a gift from God.

Hi reesebruce, My wife and I were in Nashville a couple months ago and drove by the hospital . It is a very nice facility. As I understand , Dr Nicole Miller is one of Dr Lingeman`s Students. I would be very confident with her as my Dr. With all the info in this post , you should show a dramatic improvement after your surgery. Remember, It can take time. All the best , just me

Hi Jack, Do your self a favor and call Dr Lingeman and ask if the number of procedures Dr Wei has performed in the time frame is enough to be proficient . I understand those of us who have succesful surgeries have a well deserved attachment to their surgeons. This surgery is not an easy one to learn, and takes time and experience to perfect. I have no doubts Dr Wei is a good Dr. I am impressed with his credentials. I just wish I knew more of his HOLEP experience. All the best just me
