I am female and had a hemorrhoidectomy 3 days ago and the pain is so excruciating when I go to the loo that I SCREAM. I am also having to have a pee standing up in the shower as when I sit down I can't go because of the pain in my bottom. Can anyone help me - I also have IBS so taking laxatives presents me with the problems of having bowel movements 30 times a day (which is what has been happening) over the last 2 days.

It's been about a month since my total hem and I'm good as new. What helped me after having a BM the first week was going straight to the shower to let the water and baby soap just run over the area to clean it and then applying Lidocaine my doc prescribed. Some docs don't want you to apply anything, but my doc saw me in agony the 3rd day and all the swelling down there so he gave it to me. After that I would sit sideways on a pillow on my recliner and put a lage bag of ice over my bottom. I did this repeatedly every time I had a BM all day long. I was like a prune. In 10 days I was great and the pain was almost gone. All I needed was an occasional Tylenol. Also, DON'T FORGET the sitz warm water baths. I was told to do them 3/day for 20 minutes. I still sit in the tub, but that's only because I bought a TV for the bathroom since I was spending so much time in it. What a great investment! :-D GOOD LUCK! (p.s. I too screamed.)
