Hi everyone! I posted in here about a year ago, but there’s no way I could find that post now. I’ve been off the pill for two years. All of my symptoms started while on the pill: nausea, vomiting, crippling anxiety, depersonalization, derealization, constant panic attacks. After going off the pill I slowly started feeling better. It took a while before I started feeling like me again, and I still had anxiety around my cycle though nowhere near as bad as before. Now I’m two years post-pill, I’m ovulating and I’ve been struggling with terrible anxiety and depersonalization these past couple weeks. It’s so discouraging and paralyzing. And I’m so worried about getting back to the point of basically not being able to function. Anyone have experience with a recurrence of symptoms? Like I said I’m two years pill free, I don’t drink caffeine anymore, or drink or smoke. I’ve basically cut out every fun thing in my life lol. Yet I still have these weeks (around my period and ovulation) where I just don’t feel like myself. It’s so discouraging.

Hey! I’m 1 year and 4 months off, my symptoms started 12 months ago though. I just had my first period since March (I have PCOS so my cycle is always a mess) and now that it’s coming to an end I’m starting to feel a bit of the anxiety that I haven’t felt in months. It’s hard to ignore it sometimes but now that I think about it, it can’t be a coincidence that I felt no anxiety when I didn’t have a period, but now that I’ve had one I feel the anxious thoughts sort of coming back. I feel like it can take longer than we think for our hormones to be balanced, but don’t worry we’ll overcome this. Stay strong!!

Hi there, is it every cycle that you feel like that or does it come and go?
Are you on any vitamins etc?

I found that a good probiotic (2 caps a day) helped alot with the brain fog and derpsonalization. Vit C, a vit B mix of B1, B2, B5, B6 and B12, Omega 3 extra strength and magnesium is very recommended to help with the nervous system
I've been using a natural hormone balancer for 3 months now that has chasteberry in it and it has worked great .... stress affects our cycles in a major way so some months will be a little wonky . I think your body is just trying to tell you something is not ok yet

I forgot to mention, try and take helpful supplements! The pill depletes us of so many things. I took St. John’s Wort for 3 months when I was at my worst and it helped greatly.

Sometimes I’ll have cycles where I either feel completely fine, or the anxiety is mild enough that it doesn’t really affect my everyday life. But most of the time I get pretty panicky and stressed around my period and ovulation. I don’t take any supplements aside from a probiotic (I’ve always had digestive issues) and a vegan multivitamin. I definitely need to look into it though! I know it will take time, but experiencing these symptoms 2 years later is just so frustrating and adds to my panic because it sometimes feels like I’ll never be done with this, or that maybe there’s actually something really wrong with me psychologically. Although I never felt this way before birth control, so it should be obvious that that’s the culprit. It’s just hard to think straight when feeling like this.

And having only a few good weeks per month where I truly feel okay is pretty exhausting and depressing.

I hear you. the best thing is to find the source of these issues.... if you weren't like this before the pill, then something isnt right, i mean even if you were, it's still not right. there's a reason for this and you need to find out what it is. Not sure if you keen on seeing a nephropathy that can treat you naturally but perhaps its worth a try

IS there anything specific that stand out around the time you started getting symptoms again?

I can’t say that my symptoms ever abated completely. I tend to get anxious every cycle but I can push through it by telling myself it’ll end soon. And then when I’m feeling good I somehow convince myself that the anxiety is gone forever, which is never the case. It’s just this past month the anxiety has been particularly intense and I can’t seem to catch a break. It has been sort of a stressful month at work so perhaps that’s contributed. I just never want my symptoms to reach the level of severity they were at when I was actually on the pill, because that was pretty much unbearable.

to be honest i dont think they will get that bad again.... that's a crisis point and the body always recovers from a crisis. symptoms are always a cry for help so when the body is not happy it will send you messages. to help the nervous system function better, they tend to recommend magnesium and vit b complex... i also found that training (walking or jogging or cycling) helps a lot with anxiety. B12 helped me tremendously with the nervous / anxiousness. I took slightly higher doses then normal for a few months. still take higher than normal doses on vit c as my immune system struggles with each cycle. I tend to get flu symptoms around ovulation

Now that you mention it I experience some flu-like symptoms around my period as well. I get congested and shaky and my stomach hurts. Is that kind of what you experience?

I get the same way! I’m not sure how exactly to explain it but it feels like my body is shaking on the inside, and on top of that I get congested, super puffy/bloated, stomach pains, and other flu-like symptoms. This sucks!!! But I know we’ll make it through

It’s just crazy how severely the pill can affect our bodies. I’ve never had GREAT periods but now I straight up dread it because I just know I’m going to feel terrible for a couple weeks.

I know right! I’m honestly feeling like trying out a hormone balancing supplement like Alani Nu, I’ve heard it works wonders but I don’t really have the money at the moment. I guess most of us are just extremely sensitive to hormone shifts because my aunt told me she’s been on a bunch of birth controls over the years and she’s never had a problem at all. I wish :( but I’m also glad that I only took it for 6 months because who knows how I’d experience if I had taken it longer

I’m honestly scared to take anything because I’m worried that I’ll potentially mess my hormones up even worse. Alani Nu does have really good reviews though.
