I’m sure this book has been mentioned before but I just bought Beyond The Pill by Jolene Brighten and I’m learning so much about what birth control does to your body and how to reverse it! I’m going to try the 14-day detox and report back! I also got the book At Last A Life, which is all about overcoming anxiety and panic attacks. The author talks about symptoms like depersonalization and derealization, which it seems a lot of us are dealing with. Highly recommend you guys check them out! I’m hoping this plus the naturopath will finally be able to get me all sorted out!

Hi ladies, I haven’t posted on here in about a week or two just because I wanted to take a break from dwelling on this whole experience. I posted a while back about starting Metformin for my PCOS...wow. It’s been almost 2 weeks and I’ve already ovulated and gotten a real period as of yesterday. TMI but I haven’t had a bright red, painful period like this since before I started the pill in 2017. I knew the Metformin was doing something because emotionally I felt sensitive, I started crying the other day during the smallest argument, I’ve been feeling sad when rejected..this is what my PMS was like before the pill. The physical pain seems unbearable at times but I’d rather this than the hell birth control withdrawal put me through. if any of you have PCOS, definitely consider metformin! I also have noticed the anxiety/intrusive thoughts have died down, so I think I’ll feel 100% once the Metformin results are full blown over the next few weeks/months. Stay strong ladies!!

I got my test results back from the naturopath today and it turns out I’m super low in D vitamins and my progesterone levels are low as well! She started me on D3 and chaste berry and for once I’m feeling so hopeful that maybe I can feel normal again!! Will keep you guys posted.

I’ve tried berberine but it didn’t do anything :( I was paranoid about trying the Metformin but I’m so glad I did, I feel like it instantly balanced me out. Granted I still have to wait for the results over time but I’m just relieved as of right now lol.

I was feeling hopeful yesterday, and then I woke up today with the same crippling anxiety and weird, disconnected feeling. I know it’s gonna take a while to get my body sorted out and I keep telling myself that. But it still feels kind of impossible to live my life like this. I just get so discouraged sometimes, even now that I have answers. I’m so thankful for this forum and this community though. I hope everyone is doing well! Or at least feeling somewhat better than before.

I know the feeling. It sucks to play the waiting game but as hundreds of women have said on here, time is the best healer. I have hope you’ll feel much better soon!

Hey everyone. I’m two years off and after my period ends I always feel super numb. Like nothing matters and I have no attachment to anything. Anyone else feel like this ?

Same. A lot of people say they have all their symptoms before their period but mine come after. I get really depressed and don't care about anything. I sometimes worry I have PMDD but the only way I can find out is time.

Went to a general practitioner today and she’s trying to convince me to get back on birth control. She said she thinks it will help with my moods and my acne, and she also disagreed with my naturopath who said my progesterone was low. She said she thinks my hormones are fine so now I don’t know what to think. I want to side with my naturopath because obviously something is wrong with me, and it was all induced by BC. But even after telling my GP about my severe reaction she seems to think getting back on the pill will help me. This is so frustrating. I just want a definitive answer.

How could your doctor disagree that your progesterone is low? What test was done by your naturopath? If it was a blood, urine or saliva test those are all accurate ways to test so it's unlikely the results are false. That's super weird. Low progesterone is very common in women, i'm pretty sure I have it too i'm just waiting to have my test done. I would believe your naturopath because i've been trying to get tested for a long time and most GPs don't seem to understand that when testing hormones via blood test it has to be done on a specific day in the cycle to be accurate, and even then it doesn't give a good picture of how your hormones fluctuate throughout a full cycle. You know your body best and if you feel like something is up i'm sure you're right ! And also GPs have this idea that going back on the pill will "regulate" your hormones but it actually just completely shuts down all your hormones and you start using fake ones, which is why so many of us are in this mess. Our bodies have no idea what to do with our own ! I've been off for 3 months now. I went back on many times because I just couldn't cope with my acne, hair loss, mood swings, depression, etc but everytime I went back on I felt worse. In the end it's all about what's best for you and only you, but don't let anyone influence your decision.

Blood testing is very tricky and i wouldn't take your GP's advise to be honest, they just know what else to say to you other than go back on birth control because that's all that makes sense
Like the lady below said, you know your body best and if you feel off then its off. I also had bloods done with a DR that specializes in treating women naturally... he said my levels were good except DHEA and progesterone... when i looked i looked that "normal" readings for DHEA, i wasnt that far off , progesterone was like 6 in cycle day 1 when at that point its supposed to be way more. Anyways, its not just sex hormones that need testing, its your endocrine system including neurotransmitters too. synthetic hormones cause a lot of havoc in your body and deplete vital nutrients which your body needs to keep all your stuff firing in a balanced manner.
There is a guest who mentioned Dr Jolene Brighten, beyond the Pill..... she explains things perfectly. There is a reason we all stayed away from conventional Dr's during this process... if you want some good help, see someone in functional medicine or an endocrinologist.
