foods to eat post hemorrhoidectomy?

3 weeks and 4 days since the knife. Wow!! If I knew then, what I know now, I would have wore a pad for the bleeding for the rest of my life. If there was a switch to be flipped, knowing it was a 1 way switch, (DEATH), I would have flipped it a few times. I love life, but I would not wish that pain on anyone. I now read that this procedure can cause incontinance when I get older?? The Doc left that part out?? OMG!! The pain. I have had a few good days since. Today, I was hurting real bad.My pain is after BMs. If you can imagine a Greyhound bus parked up your rear sideway, Well thats about the extent of it. I'm now down to a short bus, after a BM. Unbelievable!!!!! I would not recommend this on either of my Ex-wifes!!!!!

Had my surgery 10 days ago.  It has been very painful as others have described, but is tolerable if you take your pain pills as prescribed.  The pain is almost gone but the discomfort persist.  Had my first BM 2 days after surgery.  It was fearful and painful.  Expect some bleeding but please call your doctor if it becomes excessive .  Stick to near liquid diet for the first few days and take stool softeners.  MOM was very helpful to me in relieving the frequent pressure to go to bathroom.  Give yourself time to heal before starting activities of daily living.  I made the mistake when I was pain free and I went driving around and doing groceries, but paid with increased pain and soreness for the next two days.  I take no more hydrocodone, just Tylenol once in a while.  Good luck to everybody.  I do hope this has been helpful to someone.  Most of the other postings were helpful to me before and after surgery.  Thanks

I had a hemorrhoidectomy exactly one week ago today. I tried to have a bowel movement a day or so later and had EXCRUCIATING pain. I was literally afraid to use the bathroom again. Out of sheer desperation, I started googling and came across this discussion board that suggested looking for videos about squatting to have an elimination. Honestly, I thought it was a joke. I viewed three videos on YouTube and had an opportunity to test it out today. I normally do not leave responses on discussion boards. The suggestion to squat to have an elimination made so much of a difference, I HAD to thank all of you that shared this advice. It made ALL the difference in the world. Prior to today, I would come out of the bathroom in the worst pain and terrified thinking about going back.

It may sound very weird, but JUST TRY IT. (Sidenote -- why didn't they just tell me this in my post-operative instructions. It would have been SO helpful. I'm certainly going to share this information when I return to my doctor for the 3-week follow-up appointment.)

Thanks for this I am schedualed for hemorrhoidectomy on April 11. I am terrified..OMG to the point that I am sick, I have actually thought of cancelling the operation. I have no discomfort or pain. Just bleeding. I was told it even hurt to urinate is that true?

Ok Kim , I am now 15 days since the surgery, definitely much better now and BM is back to almost normal with some slight discomfort , not on any pain killers but still taking some laxatives to make sure soft BM, my worst days ware the first 5-6 days, then it started to get better, make sure plenty of fluids, plenty of fibre in food, pear, skinned apple, prune, laxatives and pain killers are your best friends, I would recommand staple haemarroidectomy rather than the treditional one, aparantly the pain is worse in the traditional surgery....

had my surgery yesterday; it is NOT painful to urinate at all. just passed my first bit of 'gas'. not BM yet but was excited to pass gas and not hurt. of course it's painful; take your meds but push the fluids and try to stick to a bland diet for the first few days (BANANAS, BROTH, WHITE RICE, FIBRE FIBRE FIBRE!). I was terrified going in but now realize i was well prepared and everything i'm feeling/experiencing is everything i expected. you'll be fine :) good luck!

Hi, I am typing this as I lay in bed 4days after surgery. I went in on Friday afternoon and had a rubber banding outpatient done..except the dr did not numb it at all, just lubed put the tube in and went to town... Except that the id**t rubber banded an external hermoroid... Didn't even put me in for pain meds till I asked and by time I got downstairs I drove myself home in agony...couldn't stand in line at pharmacy to get drugs. By the time I got home screaming in pain, I could see the rubberband around the now swollen and blackish purple chunk of my anus... My wife took a pic, drove in to get pain meds and confront dr. He came to our house looked at it told me I had thrombosis ....a lie... And scheduled me for hermoroidectomy the next morning( sat). This ass put me in for a spinal tap, no general anesthesia, and no antibiotics. He cut out one of three large internal hemoriods (I didn't want to miss 6+weeks from work/school) and sliced off the external one he butchered. 4 days later, my anus is still swollen and prolapsed, making cleaning poo off virtually impossible. I'm eating just enough to cover the percocet and smearing analgesic ointment around my anus to deaden it. I've got an open sore on the outside and god only knows what inside. He didn't write prescriptions or directions for anything and haven't seen him since surgery. My wife had to go but stool softeners, which don't help. He told me to use mineral oil and milk of magnesia and sitz baths, this wasn't in perscription and didn't bother to write up anything for convalescent leave either... No idea how long I am expected to miss before I can go back to work. The milk of magnesia made me literally blow poo and gas and blood out... Most painful ever. I'm just taking dulcolax to counter Percocet now. This has been nightmare. I'm worried this guy did some more wrong to me... I'm going to try to see a different dr tomorrow. Worst experience ever. I'm scared. Best part ... I'm in the army so if he did screw up, the ferris doctrine prevents me from suing for malpractice, which I'm pretty sure this is.

Ouch, I can feel your pain but unfortunately hemorrhoidectomy surgery does have the most painful recovery periods among all other methods. Furthermore, you still have 2 internal hemorrhoids left, so you are still bound to bleed in your stools, so there is still hope in your recovery :)

Try to do some torso rotations everyday and see if your bleeding alleviates. Hope everything works out for you.

well i just had surgery yesterday and not in a whole lot of pain. I read this thread first and was scared out of my mind before, but now im just greatful for a really good surgeon. I was prescribed vicodin but only took one and ibuprofen 600 this morning as vicodin can cause consipation. Ive been eating mostly soups and oatmeal and toast (wheat) . Hopefully no pain after this just that dull pain in the a$$ for now.

I'm in my second week after the operation and lastnight I cheated. I ate meat and curry rice, but I use dulcolax together with activia joghurt to keep the stools manageable. I only drink painkillers if I use the loo more than 3 times a day which is regular since a week ago. I still get that burning effect after a BM. That discomfort is my only concern when I go back to work next week as I cleanse myself with betadine antiseptic solution. I just eat soup, milk, juice, ice-cream and cheat with popcorn and russians. Doc said I must pass stools everyday coz if I don't the stool will get dry in 24 hours and I then it will cause trouble when I have a BM. Eating tomatoes and cucumbers are also good. Fibre, definitely! I use paroven daily and will be using it for 3 months. It helps the wounds contract and heal quicker. Well, all the best for those that went through the operation. We will make it. Hard knock life...lol
