I have used protein powder, meal replacement shakes, and gummy candy. 5 days post surgery and no BM yet(only passing fluid).

I had a hemorrhoidectomy one week ago today. I’ve always had a high tolerance for pain but this surgery became my kryptonite. I had a BM the second night I was home and each one for the next few days has been so painful until today. Prior to the surgery I would occasionally use collagen peptides, good gut health. This morning I had my first cup of coffee since the surgery and put the collagen in it; I had the most pain-free BM…..’relief’! I was only prescribed Tramadol for the pain and it didn’t seem to work all that well. I have been taking 500mg of Tylenol every 6 hours and the pain has been tolerable. I don’t wish the pain of a hemorrhoidectomy on ANYONE. Good luck all.

This is my 5th week after my post op and I still feel a lot of pain after a BM. I took my time to take a picture of that throbbing sensation in my rectum only to find out that, after a BM, the rectum will be pushed out and it will cost me a lot of pain.... seems like an inflammation to me. This scares me like crazy! I don't understand why mine took a long time to heal. Of all the posts I've read, mine appears to be the worst situation. I eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, pure fiber cereals, and sometimes some nuts. I drink a lot of water and smoothie. I cant still fathom why i'm still in pains.
I'm getting so tired of this pain as I could not do anything tangible with my self anymore.

Thank you for this. Your honesty and insight brought me out of tears. I just ordered a squatty potty on Amazon. 6 days post-op and I thought I was alone in how excruciating the BMs have been. I felt like something must be wrong with me. I feel like I’m dying every time. Everywhere on the internet says recovery is 7-10 days. No way! This gives me hope.

You’ve probably already had it, I’m on first day, I took a senacot s that night (x2), had a BM this morning that wasn’t near as bad as my first internal laser surgery. I’m sure that I am not out of the woods, but so far so good. I have Graves’ disease (thyroid), so for me, I regularly take two Metamucil’s, one before breakfast and one before dinner, followed by a whole glass of water. I have struggled through this for way too long… here is the rest of my regimen, 3 - 225 mg. Of magnesium oxide, two weren’t enough, one after lunch and two after dinner, game changer, I was able to get off of stool softeners after 30 years. I use an align pro biotic after dinner, 24/7 helped but wasn’t enough so I switched to 5X, game changer. I start each day with a nana, later followed by a bowl of oats with apple or fruit. I drink water and juice all day. Funny I was eating grapes first thing in the morning, and I was getting blunt stools, turns out it was the grape skins.

You need painkillers. I would have died. Worse surgery ever. I took hydros and one Aleve every 12 hours. Plus my doc game me a numbing cream to put on the external wound. You should demand something.

I realise this has been a while, but I' having one smallish exterior hem removed this week. Can I ask how the recovery process was? How are you now? Most stories are from people who had multiple internal and externals removed so hoping having only one done will make recovery a bit smoother.
