if you follow a normal menstrual cycle, then according to oestrogen and progesterone levels in a cycle, it is safe(r) to have unprotected sex during your periods if both partners are comfortable in doing so, a few days after you finish your periods and 3 days after ovulation which usually happens 14 days before the end of the menstrual cycle, but varies from cycle to cycle and person to person.

however, with all that being said there are a few things to consider:
1. your lunar phase which means you can experience 2 ovulations within one cycle and this could increase the likelihood of getting pregnant even within those safe(r) zones
2. not all people ovulate 14 days before the end of the cycle, so yo need to monitor a number of things to be on the safe side:
a. cervical mucus: during the infertile days it is white and crumply and your vulva and vagina would feel drier than other days, during the fertile days it is clearer and can stretch up to 10cm in between your fingers, but you need to learn how to tell the difference between cervical mucus, your own vaginal labrications/cum (this can change consistency and texture of cervical mucus), and male's ejaculation (usually yellowy in colour and does not stretch). with practise you will learn the difference. to obtain CM stick two fingers into ur vagina and take a bit of the fluid on your external os of the cervix
b. basal body temperature: should be constant throughout your cycle but increases 0.3 to 0.5 degrees celsius 3 days before ovulation then drops 24 hrs after ovulation
c. ovulation pain(could be an indicator that you are ovulating, this is if you normally experience such pain it resembles period pain mid cycle
3. stress can delay ovulation or not
4. medication including hormonal influences

sooo, i guess just be careful, there's a chance any time to get pregnant however there are safe(r) times in which you are less likely to fall pregnant in (but not impossible)

hope this helps :-)
