Bleeding/spotting alittle when you first start having intercourse is normal. If she is bleeding that much then the best suggestion I can give is to get her to the doctors for an exam!! She may also be having some break through bleeding as well. Better safe than sorry is my theory! I am glad that you and your daughter are able to talk about the fact that she is having sex, this is good because it shows that she trusts you and that you have some open communication! Good luck.

Brown bloody discharge is usually just older blood that has been exposed to the air for a longer period of time. As long as she has her period she's not pregnant. Also, as the other poster said, breakthrough bleeding can be common when starting a pill, especially a lower dose pill.

In response to the other reply. Brown discharge appears near the end of your cycle, it happens to pretty much everyone. Your cycle goes for 28 to 30 days so of course your going to have old blood, your uterus is sluffing off the old lining. Too many people think that getting your period means you are not pregnant, unfortunately that is not always true, you have to have your cycle long enough to know what is regular for you and what is not. Some women actually still get their period in their first trimester and in some cases those women do not know they are pregnant.

Everyone is different. Stress, appetite, lack of sleep & health are all contributing factors to your cycle. At least she was smart enough to protect herself- that right there would tell me that she would be smart enough to take her pill everyday. Girls mature differently, depending on how long she has had her period would be a factor as well her body needs time to regulate and everyone matures differently. Maybe her body isn't ready for the pills hormones. If the late pattern continues she should consult a Dr. The best thing to do would be to have her record her cycles so she knows when to expect them as well as any issues in between periods- then she has a full picture for a Dr. if she decides it isn't normal for her.
