After an unprotected session in August, I took plan b the very next day. My period was due in a few days. My period came within 5 days. Fast forward to today, and it's September. My period is 13 days late. I took a test and it's positive. Plan B has never failed before. How could the plan b fail after taking it within 24 hours, plus period came (bright red blood) and then next months doesn't come and I'm positive? Just seems highly unlikely.

Hello, Bpkr13.

While Plan B is highly effective when taken within the recommended timeframe, it is not 100% foolproof. There can be various factors at play, and sometimes unexpected outcomes occur.

The appearance of a period-like bleeding shortly after taking Plan B can sometimes be confusing. This bleeding could have been a side effect of the emergency contraceptive or might have been your regular period, but lighter due to the hormonal changes caused by Plan B. It's also possible for the bleeding to be unrelated to either.

If you've taken a pregnancy test that has come back positive, it's important to consult with a doctor to confirm the result and discuss your options. False positives can occur, but a medical evaluation is necessary to determine the cause of the positive test and ensure your health and well-being are properly addressed.

Have you retaken the test?
