It's going to be a rough ride, but just expect the unexpected. Every day is better after the first 2 weeks, then another 2 weeks, so on and so forth. After about 15 years of being on Klonopin, I stopped at the end of February of 2015 after decreasing my dose slowly from 2 mg daily to .5 mg daily. When the meds were gone the first two weeks were painful and sleepless, but the support of my friends and family, knowing what I was going through after looking up withdrawl side effects online, I am getting through it and I am happier than I have been since I started taking Klonopin. I am learning how to deal with stress again, which is a healthy feeling. But I say this which is most important, be sure you are actively seeing your doctor while going off of this medication, do not stop it suddenly!

meant to mention that textbook says after 6 months your brain has re-booted and has re-learned how to operate without the Klonopin, but the side effects get a LOT easier after the first weeks once you are off completely, just hang in there.

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I have been on 2mg of Klonopin for about 3 years. I know it helped with anxiety when I took it prn, but that lasted a week! Now I'm down to 1 or 1/2 mg a nght ( sometimes 2 ) . It seems that around 5 or 6 pm my body is DYING for one! It's physical and not emotional at this point. My body is dependent on them. The psychiatrist I work for ( who doesnt prescribe them to me or anyone) told me to stop fluctuating and stick to weaning over the next year but to make sure I take the same amount in my weaning so it's now .75 of one for a 10-14 days period, then .5 for 10-14 days, then kind of see from there. I am a counselor and went to get trained in hypnotherapy at the Mayo Clinic and found it ( hypnotherapy, clinically done) helps with this type of thing so I will try it as well. I'll do anything. I am a horrible moody b***h on the klonopin and only had anxiety ( situational) before I began. I admit I manipulated the doctor I saw because I wanted it, having tried some from aquaintences. Does anyone have any experience with natural remedies to help in withdrawal? I know if I drink "Yogi" brand "relaxed mind" tea, and let it steep for 10  inutes or so, that it really helps me sleep, but I have to wait until 9 or so when the kids fall asleep then I wake up anyway to go to the bathroom. Anyway.....I guess I am here for support

Why did you want to stop taking it if it was so hard and you weren`t dying; what was the medical reason you were on it...do you not have that now?

I've been 5 drops for 3 months and am 63 years old. Could I be addicted to it? How long to withdraw and how?

I took Klonopin for 9 years and stopped taking it 2 months ago. I told my new Dr I was addicted to it and his reply was he could no longer prescribe me with something I was addicted to. I stopped cold turkey and get dizzy a lot, heart races and memory loss. It's very frustrating, but reassuring to find this info out and know I am not a lone. I have been extremely concerned and thinking I had something major wrong with me. I even went to him last week and told him what I felt was going on with withdrawals. I explained my symptoms and he treated me for a sinus infection, lol. I am so relieved that this will pass. It sucks it may take 2 years, but it will pass. My last 2 years on the drug were a nightmare. I started having heart palpitations, shakes and even passed out flat on my face last October in a parking lot. I was checked very thoroughly by a Cardiologist, Neurologist and ended up in a pain clinic because of the tightening of muscle's in my back shoulder blade and neck. I wore a heart monitor for a weekend and when I had palpitations recorded them. However everyone said I am fine and in good health. Apparently the palpitations didn't even show up on the monitor. I cannot wait for this nightmare to end. The only time I can be sure I won't have any side effects is when I am doing my workout routines, which I stopped for nearly 2 years because of the health issues I was having. Like so many that have been through this, why/how can Dr's prescribe this drug for sooo long and not issue any warnings? It is wrong. Any advice on things I can do to help myself please let me know. Thank you!!

Ur nuts. Klonapins, xanax, valiums any benzodiazepine are the worst to get off of. I am currently on klonapins 1 mg 3 times a day. Year's ago another doctor had prescribed me 1mg kpins 3 times a day as well. He had gotten in trouble for something and up and left. Let me tell ya...it took me about 1 yr to feel okay. I had seizures, paranoia, was very emotional. I couldn't stop shaking. I couldn't talk. It felt like my body was being poked with electrical shocks...and that was constant. I ended up having to b hospitalized. Sadly enough I got back on them. I've now been on the same dose for 10 yrs and My psychiatrist is tapering me down. It will start next month. I'm horrified. Its the worst withdrawal ever.

Hello, everyone who reads this needs to know that YOU CAN BEAT THIS!! It is going to take days, weeks. It should be at it's worse for about 2 weeks. Do not read the whole seizure c**p, this will just make your worrying, stress or what ever you are experiencing worse... You can do it.. Do not drink Caffeine or sugary drinks. The best thing to drink is WATER. Don't eat sweets.. You are going to have some effects from getting off this medication, BUT YOU CAN DO IT. Learn how to breath by getting HeadPhones and listen to meditation or calming music, or what ever music you really enjoy, DO THIS WITH HEAD PHONES. Do not smoke. Any stimulant like caffeine or nicotine etc will make all of your symptoms way worse than they need to be. And be positive and share your emotions with someone. MOVE, even if its walking around in circles. Lack of sleep is so normal and WILL get better. I hope this helps at least 1 of you.
