Hello,

I’ve been on Exenatide for my type 2 diabetes, together with Metformin, for the last year. It has helped a lot in controlling my blood sugar levels, together with changes in my diet, of course. It still does make me feel nauseous occasionally, but I’d rather have that than the diabetes consequences.

However, one constant issue I’m having on Exenatide is that it causes me very bad headaches. They can get so bad that besides the pain I start feeling dizzy and very unstable, as if I’m going to faint. Is there any way to manage these headaches, without stopping the medication?

Hello Dan,

there is some chance that Exenatide perhaps is lowering your blood glucose levels too much - the first and most obvious signs of this would be headache, hunger, shaking or trembling, problems with vision.

The usual recommendation in this case is to either take your next meal, if it's close, or if your blood sugar is still low, you can try drinking half a cup of orange juice or taking 1 small spoon of sugar.
