Hey,

My girlfriend and I have started having sex, and it's GREAT for her because it lasts sooooo long. The problem is that I can't cum during sex! I do masturbate and I do take Clariton D as well as Fluoxetrine for anxiety. Everytime we have sex she has a great time and I feel real good about that but then when I can't cum it makes her feel bad. She always ends up giving me a blowjob until I am stimulated enough to ejaculate. What do I do? Do I stop masturbating?

PLEASE HELP!

No, Mike. I would not advise you to stop masturbating. Instead I would focus on the anxiety. I suspect it is not being managed effectively. Specifically, not enough attention has been paid to your side-effects. (Doesn't anybody know how to take a history anymore?) Although it has been marginally effective in treating anxiety accompanying depression, Prozac has been known to actually cause anxiety. It can also cause sexual dysfunction, including anorgasmia, reduced libido and impotence.

So tell that wonderful girlfriend of yours that, no, it is not her fault; it is probably the medication you're taking. Then go talk to your doctor, tell him about your sexual side effects and ask him to either prescribe something more appropriate for you or refer you to a specialist. Primary care physicians are great, but they aren't specialists. Their strength is that they see a lot of patients, and they know what works for most of them. Their weakness is that they see a lot of patients, and they know what works for most of them. :-) They tend to be overly influenced by trends in prescribing, and Fluoxetine and Bupropion, although useful, are not the panacea that a lot of prescribers seem to think they are. The wonderful thing about them is that they have been effective in a lot of cases where patients were not responding to more traditional medications, but to go from that to making it your first recourse in treating every condition for which it has shown promise is a large and erroneous leap.

Good luck, and I hope this will alleviate at least one source of your anxiety. ;-)

P.S. Loratidine can also cause anxiety.

By the way, how are you sleeping?

Take care.
