Hi. I have a black bear hamster named Midnight. He is a male and is about a year old. I've noticed that a few times a week when he cleans himself he discards a white discharge. It's like a mucus, not runny at all, it's more like a jelly, and it's about the size of a grain of rice (sometimes slightly bigger). I have no idea what it is. He is happy and healthy and shows no signs of being sick. I just want to make sure this is something normal and that it's not a sign of some kind of problem. I've tried researching it, but all I can find is a reference to female hamsters in heat. It is very clear that he is a male, no question. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's ejaculation, but I don't know if that fits. If anyone knows what this is please let me know. It was ease my mind. Thanks :-)

Hi Viper, it sounds to me like your assessment is probably correct--it is likely that your hamster is discharging semen, which, while not unusual, probably is a little upsetting. STill, it doesn't sound like he's sick. Does anyone else have any ideas? Viper, does he have any other symptoms at all that ou can think of?

Hi Viperbunny,
One thing that was able to find online is that this could possible be his urine. They said that hamsters urine is usually cloudy white liquid.
Have you ever noticed this while he is not cleaning him self?

It only happens when he cleans himself. It's more solid than liquid. It could be urine. I could be worried over nothing, I just like being proactive because I don't want anything to happen to him. :-)
