My prescription for years if not decades is valtrex 500mg x 1 daily. As a night worker in close contact with a lot of people i have been prone to catching any bug going around and have difficulty getting over it. I found that as the night wore on and fatigue set in i would experience prodrome (early signs of herpes) and i feel that was when i was most vulnerable to other virus as well. Recently i decided to increase the valtrex by splitting a 500 mg and taking the 250 mg split pill after midnight. I am now currently enjoying the cumulative effects of not being constantly sick, I feel amazingly well. If people were to say how are you i cannot help but use words like awesome or amazing as opposed to my normal fatigued responses.

Been taking valtrex daily for years. I get sinus infections but can’t remember getting a cold or flu since the early 2000s. I won’t knock a gift horse in the mouth.

I second this! While it's not my official recommendation to take it if you've never taken it before...I too take it for reoccurring cold sores and shingle type issues...and never get sick. If I feel sick, I take my meds. I caught on to the fact that it helps very quickly, and prevents me from catching the crud others have.

That's good to hear as I have been bedridden with severe ME for 21 years and I get constant severe flu which lasts for weeks to the point I rarely have any times where I don't have the flu. I have taken acyclovir for shingles in the past and it has brought down my inflammatory markers. I have been considering taking it long term to help me have some flu free time and enable me to get out of bed. this current flu is vile I've had 3 strains since November with no breaks causing styes in my eyes, sore inflamed nostrils, infections beneath my fingernails and all the usual flu symptoms aching, nausea, dizziness, migraines etc etc so after reading this I am going to try it I have nothing at all to lose my life is non existent, thank you for posting

Well actually? It could. There is such a thing as viral load. let say you are in recovery mode for a virus anyway.Your body is actively fighting it off. If you reduce the viral load generally? Your recovery could be a lot faster. It is, of course, the body that is actually fighting it off. However, any reduction in viral load could result in improvement.(Though it is not for they particular viruses involved).
