Hello! Zovirax cream can help with lip sores. You can, also, use it if you have cold sores near eyes, on the nose. This is drug contain aciclovir. Aciclovir is active agent which prevents forming cold sores. But, you should be very careful with taking it. You should take only small doses of this cream.

From my own experience I can safely say it does work. I usually get a cold sore when winter sets in, and as soon as I feel a tingle, and use zovirax, and more often than not the cold sore hardly appears. Cant really understand why i have to get a prescription and it costs so much in the usa. stupid health care.
anyway someone in my office put me onto this company about 4 months ago, and have ordered twice and had very good service. Hope this helps.

I would like to post in support of this because it is effective. I am not sure if you ever actually went with Zovirax but the two viruses act similarly so the aciclovir as mentioned can act against both of them whenever you have a breakout. I know there's also some nice OTC stuff if you want to get that instead since it's cheaper and works just as well. Does that help?

I came to the USA from Europe 4 years ago and was very shocked and surprised to find that there was no Zovirax cream (for cold sores, not genital herpes) available! In Europe I was used to going to the pharmacy and obtaining a 5g tube of Zovirax cream over the counter for about $6 to treat a cold sore I would get twice a year during a cold or flu spell. Just before an outbreak, the tingling stage, I would apply it and I got NO cold sore, or if I did, because I did not catch it in time (due to the tingling stage starting in the middle of the night when I was asleep) it was very minimal, just a little redness for a few days. Before the advent of Zovirax cream, I would get a HUGE nasty cold sore on my top lip just below the nostril, it could be as big as a bean sometimes and not only very painful but also VERY embarrassing. It would take weeks before it finally healed. So when I cam to the US and got the cold, I knew that a cold sore was possibly on the way. I did not want to wait till the tingling started to get the cream, so I went to the pharmacy straight away and to my horror found out that it was available on prescription only. I had to go to a doctor for a cold sore!?! The doctor prescribed me the cream but then another shock came, when I was ready to pay for it at the counter the pharmacist advised me that it was not covered by insurance and that it cost $110. I could not believe it. Then I saw that it was a 15g tube, for genital herpes!?!!. The 5g tube for lip cold sores was not available in the USA at the time!! I even wrote to the FDA about this asking for an explanation of why this cream was widely and freely available, over the counter in Europe to treat cold sores, and not in the United States. I never received a reply from them. Then I noticed this year, finally, it has become available, albeit prescription only. I do not know how much it is yet because I have not bought it here as I have brought a supply with me from Europe.

Anyway, to cut this long story short: Yes, Zovirax cream works very well, especially when applied during the tingling stage.

A long time cold sore sufferer, but no longer since Zovirax cream. The best thing that has happened to me.

I use Zovirax which does help if you catch the cold sore in time.  Once its up there's not much that the cream does for me.  But I found a solution; a couple of years ago I came across an article that gave advice on cold sores and tried it.   Take Vitamin B in the morning, apparently this has a negative effec,t hindering its development, and avoid sugary and mould type foods which feed a cold sore, so cut out chocolate, raw sugar (in tae/coffee on cereals), dries fruits, mushrooms, muesli etc.  This cuts the life of a cold sore half for me.  It's the best thing I have ever done.  Hope this works for you too, Neb.

thus far i've been using it on lip sores, too & it seems to be effective, and is most effective if used early on in the cold-sore stage.

I believe in

zovirax for cold sores on your lips. Use immediately you get a twinge

and it only takes a day to get rid of the pain, then it gradually fades away. An excellent product. JP

I highly recommend it but I just went to pick up a new prescription and was told it was $400 with insurance! Normally it would be $800! I NEVER paid that before. Not sure what CVS is up to. Needless to say I just bought the $20 Abreva for now. Riduculous!!!!

That's interesting about the cost. I just picked some up last night at Wallgreens for $40 (with insurance). I'm not sure how much it would cost without... Anyways, I felt as though Abreva was a good alternative, it seems to work for me. In about three days with abreva it went from blister to scab, and less painful! I just purchased this Zovirax for another cold sore, we will see how it works!

How can I purchase Zovirax cream from your source in Europe? I also suffer from the same type of cold sore you described above and I am just getting over a cold sore that came to my bottom lip. I have never had a sore there only on my top lip right in the middle like yours. And they get large and take weeks to heal and of course are very painful. I am tired of paying so much money for the cream and the pill. Thank you!

I have recently been suffering from recurring cold sores.  I have gone through 3 tubes of Abreva in the past month!  I only get about a week in between an outbreak!  The lasat one was on my nose!  So awful!  I saw the doctor today and he pescribed Acyclovir (pills) and Zovirax 5% topical cream.  The Zovirax list price was $1019.46 at Walmart.  My insurance company  would only pay a part of the cost.  Out of pocket cost to me was $681.38.  I purchased it.  I can only that this is some type of miracle cream!  It better work than Abreva!!!  I will follow up with a post in a few days and let you all know if it works.  Maybe I'll get lips as nice as Angelina Jolee for the price of this medication!
