I just had my coil removed after 5 years. Iam turning 50 next week & thought I would not have another put in until I find out if i have reached the menopause yet. I had the coil fitted because of heavy periods & it worked great for me. I did have very light periods each month but I also got spotting in between period times. It was annoying but just like a brownish discharge.My breasts were very tender for the first few month after insertion but I never in the 5 years put on one il of weight. I had no period pains at all & after about 2 years my periods became very irregular, I would miss 3 months then be regular for 6 months then miss again. I had it removed because the 5 years was up & i have now been bleeding for 4 days but only light. My husband could feel the coil when we made love & I often got sharp pains in my stomach throughout the 5 years when we had sex in certain positions. I think this may have been the coil being pushed about inside me.If the bleeding goes on for much longer I will consider having another put in . By the way I never had
