Hello, folks. My mother had stroke several years ago. She recovered a little bit, but it isn't fully. I wonder if my mom had a stroke, will I be at risk too? I know that some diseases have a tendency to appear among family members. Is this the case as well? Thank you in advance.

Hi. I am afraid you have a risk. People, whose parents, grandparents, brothers or sisters had a stroke, are at much higher risk than the others. It means that you have a predisposition. However, it doesn't mean that you will necessarily get stroke. Usually, beside predisposition, there must be some other factors like lifestyle, diet, etc. Try to avoid fatty food. Have a moderate physical activity. Leave cigarettes if you smoke! You can ask an advice from your doctor or the nearest prevention center how to prevent such a disease. I hope everything will be all right. Good luck.
