Hi, guys. I am 31 years old and I am a stroke victim. It happened several years ago. I recovered, but I am not in a condition as I used to be before. I don’t have any children and my husband and I are thinking about this. I would like to know if pregnancy is possible or even allowed after stroke. I would appreciate all your help.

Hello. I am sorry to hear this. Pregnancy is a great stress for organism. I am sure that the first thing you were advised after you had survived stroke was to avoid any kind of stress. As a stroke victim, you are in a great risk if you decide to get pregnant. Your husband and you should be aware of this. Do not fall under any pressure. It is your health that is the most important. Talk to an obstetrician. He will advise you best. Good luck!

Hayley, you had a stroke at age 11? Wow, I had one when I was 8. I have never met another person who had a stroke as a child like I did. I was paralyzed on the left side, but regained just about all function- coordination's not great, but I know I had a blessed recovery. The left side is weaker and I have a slight limp, and decreased sensitivity, but that's it. That's great that you are having a baby! I am 21 now, and my husband and I want to start a family sometime in the near future. In talking to my ob/gyn, she did not seem to have any hesitations about my desire for 2 or 3 kids. I'm sure it's different for every person, but good luck arden, and God bless!

Hi guys. I had a stroke when I was two and a half years old. I was very lucky and have no major side effects. My doctor has told me that you need to stay healthier than most other women and look after yourself as well as continuing with the medications they prescribe. I hope this helps.
Good luck!!

I have also had a stroke when I was 8 years old. I thought I was the only one too! I was completely paralyzed on the left side of my body. Although I have recovered most of my strength in my left leg, my left hand/arm is still weak and shaky at times. I am also 17 weeks pregnant. I told my obgyn my history and she told me go to a hematologist. My hematologist says that he couldn't find anything in my blood that should cause any sort of clotting again. So, my obgyn isn't worried about me having a clot during pregnancy. I am a still a bit worried and am getting a 2nd opinion about whether I should be on blood-thinning medications and other precautions I should be taking. For those of you who had strokes when you were younger, are you on an medication? Have you gone to a specialist lately and heard anything that might help me in this situation?

I also had a stroke and my gyn suggested that I needed to be cafeful to avoid unplanned pregnancy. That it can be managed but that your should be followed for prob/ complications from the start.

Good luck

I too had a stroke at a young age. I was 17. I had an anterior spinal infarction. C5 - T3. Rendered me Quad for 3 months. I learned to walk again. I am now 37 years old. I have right hand paralysis, right leg weakness (gait issues), reduced sensation thru torso and left leg. I am now 8 months pregnant. Being closely monitored by medical team. So far so good. I am nervous and scared about the delivery. I fear I will have trouble pushing. I would like a C section but they do not want to do major surgery on me if they do not have to. There are no clear answers. But from what I can tell from other forums is lots of women who have had strokes have babies. IF you want to have a family get a referral to an OBGYN. It is possible. :-)

It is good to know I am not the only young stroke victim I had a bad reaction to the DPT vaccination and had a stroke at 6 months old. I am almost 8 weeks and my OB did not seem to have any worries. It is my first so I am still a little nervous but hoping for the best! Thank you everyone for sharing your stories.

I had a stroke at the age of 12-never met another person who had one at a young age. I am curious how others are able to hold/care for a baby. I have decreased use of my left hand/arm and have always seen this as a barrier to caring for a baby. What accomodations do/have you used?

I had a stroke when I was 5 years old, now i am 34 and my fiance and I having our first baby boy. Life is short so do what makes you happy. Go to your doctor because you are happy about becoming a potential mom/dad but don't go your doctor because you are a stroke survivor that is worried about having children.

All the best

I had my first child when I was 17 years old,I have suffered with aura migraines since I was 14,when I had my daughter after a very quick delivery I was told to have a soak in the bath,as I was laying down my eyes starting going blurry and my mouth dropped on the left side so did my left arm,I was carried out of the bath by my mum and 2 nurses,I was put on a dehydration drip and told I had got up and in the bath too early?! Could I of had a stroke? Since then I have had 2 more children, but recently been having terrible aura migraines,is there a connection,as I've got older I really believe that I could have possibly had a stroke...

I too had a stroke when I was 10, i'm now 26 , married and 4 weeks pregnant. Haven't been to the doctors yet , however am thinking of doing this in the coming weeks. we cant quite believe we are pregnant as we thought it would take ages because of my medication. (Asprin 75mg 2pd)

All a bit of a dream , but very cautious too! I am worried about how i will cope with a newborn as I have weakness and spasticity in my right side.

Would love to chat to any mummies to be !
