I heard about cross training. I want to improve my health and overall fitness. I was suggested that I should give cross training a try. I am not sure about this. Does it have any advantages over the other types of workouts? What do you think about increasing fitness with cross training?

Specific training requires specific muscle groups and neuromuscular adaptation. Desirable as it is regarding the competition preparation it is generally a one track road. If you want to develop more balanced body or have more developed skills and abilities you should include a variety of different workouts. Many people use cross training to increase their fitness level and achieve more balanced development. So I would recommend cross training for your goals.
