I’m 45-year-old healthy man. Almost two years ago I’ve noticed that was something wrong with me. I started to feel long-lasting pain and tenderness in muscles, joints, and tendons. Friend told me that this is probably caused by simple cold or fever. I didn’t pay to much attention on it ‘cause I thought it will stop after few days. But symptoms are just got worse. I went to see a doctor who also said that probably is some infection cause of my problems. I searched for a second opinion and the other doctor said he is suspecting on fibromalgia, some muscle disease and I’m scheduled for examination next week. Does anybody know how serious is this disease and what is the cure?

I suffer from fibromalgia for over then ten years now.
First you don’t even know for sure that you suffering from it. Positive diagnosis is confirmed after the physician administers a series of blood tests to eliminate the possibility of other disorders that create similar symptoms, such as arthritis, lupus erythematosus, and thyroid disorders.
I don’t want to disappoint you but there is no cure for fibromalgia, but a number of treatments can ease its symptoms. First, you will need complete lifestyle adaptation. Careful stretching and low-impact exercise along with stress reduction could make your life almost complete normal.

Dear guest,
I don’t know if you are experiencing any problems or suspect you may suffer from this disorder but I have decided to tell you a little bit about it, and if you have any additional questions feel free to ask them.
Fibromyalgia is usually females’ disorder as 90% of people affected are women. The main characteristics of this disorder are an unexplained exhaustion, overall pain, especially in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, and multiple tender points, fatigue, etc.
The problem with fibromyalgia is that doctors can’t seem to find anything wrong with you and that all tests show negative. A good this is that this disorder is not progressive but still a person can never fully get rid of the symptoms. Besides the mentioned symptoms, a person may have problems sleeping, experience headaches and suffer from irritable bowel syndrome.
There are a few suspected risk factors but the exact cause can’t be found. Some doctors believe it could be due to chemical changes in the brain, sleep troubles, viral or bacteria infections, blows to the upper spinal region, changes in muscle metabolism, as well as stress, etc
If you recognize any of these symptoms and risk factors, you should pay a visit to a doctor and get proper treatment that includes medication but you will also need to take good are of your self and make some permanent life changes.

hi, im 20 and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 5 years ago, at the moment fibromyalgia effects my arms and neck which gives me severe headaches. i explain them as it like having a temperature head ache, the pounding with every step or movement you make. those who have had a career should class themselves lucky. Due to getting this early i couldn't finish my college course as they thought i was faking it! and holding any job down is impossible for me as the amount of days off i have, makes me unreliable.
i would me grateful if anyone knows of a career i could do. i would like to become and "independent woman"!!!

If there is anything that you can do via telecommute or internet, that may be the best option - but not easy.
I have a full time job, low pay, no benefits and no sick time. I have no choice but to go to work and deal with the pain there. It's not easy by any means. I haven't been diagnosed with fibromyalgia - I can't afford to go to the doctor and have the tests run to eliminate other possible causes, though in the past I've never been diagnosed with any of them. There may only be a few more tests to run but money is the major issue.
I've heard that there are low impact exercises and things to change in the diet to help alleviate some of the pain. I had started keeping a pain journal but found it was simpler to write down the days that I wasn't in pain - which are few and far between. I can't sleep at night and when I do, I wake up suddenly but in agony. It takes a while to get moving and the cold makes things a lot worse. Still, I struggle through it out of necessity. It would be easier if I could get diagnosed but the free clinics won't do something like that.
A friend of mine suggested disability - at least to have something coming in financially and, depending on where you are, there are assistance programs to help. As for being independant, woman or otherwise, it's possible but far more difficult than we would like. Even for those of us who do work, despite the pain, suffer greatly in one way or another because of it.
I wish you well....

Hi im 20 and was diagnosed 7yrs ago.
My mum also has it.
I ve always worked up until i had my daughter who is nearly 8months.
Working was a struggle and i did have to have alot of time off.
The fibromalgia effect my school time aswell.
I have found since having my daughter it has got alot worse but i have learnt to deal with it.
Sleep is a big problem and i can sleep better in the day than at night.
There are times wen i cant actually keep myself awake and i go into a really deep sleep 4 short amounts of time its scares me especially wen my daughter is with me.
Pacing ur self can help but that is hard to do wen u got a baby .
I get pain all over but my shoulders and back are where i get it worse.
all the best to u all sian xx

for the past 2 years i have been getting pains in my legs, especially my shins. My leg by my ankle in the front sometimes dimples in. i feel like someone is pressing down on my shoulders with how sore and achy they get. my neck gets stiff. i get lower back pain. after sitting in one position too long, i get stiff all over. latelty, i have been getting pain in my feet making it sore to walk. i suffer from migraines for years now. latelty i have been getting pain in my jaw as well. i have had muscle test done, blood work to rule out rhemotiad arthritus, lupus, lyme disease, ect. the doctor put me on b12 shots since i have a b12 defeciancy which has helped with the constant fatigue but not the pain. he gave me gabapentin to take at bedtime which has really helped with being able to sleep at night. if no improvements in 3 months then he plans to consider me for osteo-arthritus but feels I am too young to have that since I am 32 years old or fibromalgia. My friend has fibromalgia and I have alot of the same symptoms as she has but it seems to take forever for the doctor to diganose anyone with this until they rule everything else out. in the meantime, i am stuck with the pain. does anyone know how to releive any of the symptoms until the doctor decides to finally diagnose me? i would really appreciate any help or natural cures for my migraines. i get them so frequently and they make it hard to work and concentrate. i have cut all soda out of my diet and drink alot of water. I drink 1-2 coffees a day but that is the only caffeine i drink unless of course i get a migraine then i try anything to make it go away but usually they wear me down and i have to sleep which sometimes helps but sometimes i wake up and still have it. it is getting harder and harder to make it thru a day at work but i have no choice since i carry the insurance on my family. is fibromalgia something you can get disability for? i know with disability that will be another long waiting guessing game because they usally always deny you the first time here in Pa. any info would be appreciated. God bless

I was diagnose with fibromalgia about 6 years ago or so, to anyone out there I will say hang in there, I know this takes a lot from you and can end up your career like it did mine, but do not give up hope and keep on going, I did and little by little I have manage with it started a new career but as with that stress can lead you back to it and remind you of it. Do not let others stress you as much as possible, exercise eat right and try to do what makes your body hurt less

I have had fibromyalgia most of my life and I was diagnosed with it 3 years ago! My life was changed from every aspect, and I hope that you don't have it. I am 23 and I have it really seveare! Since winter is coming I have to use a cane in the winter because of how bad it is for me. I know you want answers to a lot of things if you are diagnosed with it. But if you have it, take it a day at a time. Don't let information yo get from different doctors and people who have it freak you out. Easier said than done, I know. You are your own cure/enemy in your recovery. If you do have it will be chronic in and out of your life or day to day.

Hello everyone, I was diagnosed about three years ago with fibro. I have had symptoms for much longer. I live with pain and fatigue everyday. It sure gets old very quickly. I am currently on tons of meds and try to do some sort of daily exercise and stretching. I had my back injected on Tuesday with steroids in hopes it would help with the back pain. The Friday before that I under went trigger point injections around my left ribs and left hip. Boy did the hip injection hurt. My back and rib area seem to be doing better, but not the hip. I have been in 2 horrible car accidents in the lst 4 years which I'm sure hasn't helped with the fibro. I plan to keep pushing and praying, believing someday this to shall pass!Quote:
This too shall pass :P

I was diagnosed 5 years ago. It's been very , very rough. I have gone through at least 30 symptoms. I've had a Doctor who pretty much used me as a ginny pig. They will prescribe a medication for each symptom, which made me feel worse. You get so desprate that you will try anything; plus we think " oh, well their Dr's " they know what they are doing. Most med's have a side effect or several side effects. I have gotten immune to some med's already. I think Requip, really works well for the restless leg syndrome. I have to take a antidepressant. I have major depression. That and stress makes every thing worse. Almost each symptom will come and go, but it not before they make you remember them. Stretching, walking, eat better, less stress helps. This has been very hard on my family; they cant understand.
