I had a shunt installed in August 2010, I have since had 2 MRI scans which shows that I have a swollen brain. Because I am so well (go the gym 3 days aweek) the surgical team want to monitor me with an MRI scan every 3 months, they think that I may have always had a swollen brain and that I probably do not have a tumor. My question is; Is it possible to have a swollen brain from birth?

Hi! I doubt it. I'm not a doctor but this is what I've found. Brain swelling can result from overuse or infection. Usually, swelling happens quickly and is simple to treat with some combination of rest, ice, elevation, medication, or removal of excess fluid. Your brain can also swell as a result of injury, illness, or other reasons.
