I am bit concerned about my situation. I've been on Loestrin 24 for 2 months now (I start my 3rd pack in a few days). Last Saturday morning I had unprotected sex and started bleeding. My period isn't expected until this Saturday. I thought it was a week early but then I noticed I'm just spotting, which is very annoying because I've been spotting every day since last Saturday. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Will I still get my period this weekend?

It takes time for your body to adjust to change in hormones that are caused by the pill. Loestrin 24 stops ovulation and changes your menstrual cycle and in normally takes two to three months for that to happen. In the meantime, your body tries to react as it has before and that’s why spotting happens. So, it common to experience spotting between monthly periods during the first 1 to 3 pill packs. However, the light bleeding or spotting will usually go away. If this bleeding or spotting continues after three months or if bleeding is persistent or prolonged you should see your doctor. Spotting is caused by the birth control pill – it had nothing to do with unprotected sex.
