What can you tell me about the effect of the Sun on SLE patients? My mother suffers from that condition and she is determined in her decision regarding traveling. I am just worried that she will not take enough care while she is gone. Is sun making SLE worse? Do you know?

SLE is known to affect the patients with different symptoms so this means that some of them might have not so serious signs. But there are symptoms that are skin related and we do know what intensive sun rays can do to a skin, even a healthy one. So, I guess she will have to bring and use any possible protection available.

yes, the sun can activate the illness in lupus. Everyone does act differently, but the sun can cause a flair. One of the symptoms a lupus patient can have is the photosensitivity. I have it and if I push it too much in the sun without sunscreen, which I do, I will end up with fever, more arthritis pain, and feeling sick fatigue, all because of the sun.
I have had lupus for 24 years. My symptoms are
photosensitivity
fever
plurasy
fatigue
arthritis
raynauds
rash (but controlled by plaquinil)
and fibromyalgia
