My Story: I was 108 lbs and 5 ft and I got my first shot after my second son was about 9 months. I have specifically asked and my doctor said there are no side effects at all. During that time I was also breast feeding and I went to India for about 4 weeks. The trip was very exhaustive as there was wedding, running around places and I worked for a week from India and still continued to breast feed. I came back to US in Jan 2013 and continued to breast feed until my son was an year old and that was Feb 2013. I noticed that while I was in India I lost weight by about 6 lbs but as soon as I came back, no change in diet nor life style I gained 15 lbs in 3 months and tummy was gross, I looked like 4 months pregnant. I can never forgive my Doctor for lieing to me. Its June 2013 when I got my first period after the shot but its very light and dark brown. I don't even use napkin, I just have to use one section of toilet paper and everytime I pee change it...its that light. It has been a month and this light bleeding never stops. I have been running and excercising twice a week but that did not help loose weight. But I can definitely say that since I got my period..even though its lite my tummy looks a bit flatter than before. Oh! and one other thing is I have hypo thyroid, so until I was in India I took my meds regularly but after I came back stopped for 3 months straight. So I am not sure if my weight gain was due to stopping my meds and breastfeeding and depo provera or just Depo provera. I think its definitley depo provera and hope to come off the weight now that I am off of Depo. Anybody has lost weight after coming off of Depo without doing much?

I am almost 18 years old, I started the depo shot in July, I took it until march or April. I started the shot weighing 109 pounds, it's been 6th months send I stopped the shot and I haven't lost any weight! I am now 140 pounds, most of the weight has gone to my stomach, my family is talking behind my back, they think I'm pregnant because of the weight on my stomach, I used to be a size 0 or 1 in pants, now a size 3 is snug around the waist. This weight gain is depressing me! I used to feel so skinny and I could wear tight shirts and you could see my hip bones, now all I see is my tummy! I can't get rid of it, my eating habits haven't changed. I try sit ups and ab exercises but nothing helps. I wish I never took the depo :(

I thought it was only me, I have been losing weight and have not cut out my fatty foods. I have gone down one size in a month. Even my mom and aunt that never notice when I lose weight are telling me that I am and what am I doing.

I'm 5'0 and weighed 134 throughout my high school years and never gained weight until i got on the Depo. I was on the depo for 1 year June 2011 to June 2012 (during that year i gained a total of 20lbs) after June of 2012 i got off of it and have been ever since. I do not recommend the shot at all to anyone.

I was on the shot for a year and half and lost over 50 pounds. Something about the shot worked against my body and caused me to throw up all the time. I talked to my OBGYN and he said that throwing up can sometimes be a side affect. It just depends everybody is different.

Hi. I put on weight whilst being on the jab. I put on 13lbs in 2years. I have been off the jab for 2years now and I have lost 10lbs. It's a really slow weightloss and it's very difficult. My advice is to speed up your metabolism by doing exercise and building muscle. It will be easier to lose the weight that way. Reducing food alone does not work.

I've just stopped taking depo after 10 years. No one should be on this drug unless as a last resort. It's a powerful drug and no long term studies have been done on women who have ben on it for a long time. I have gained over 50 pounds and cannot get it off. All of this talk about eating right, dieting is bs. The only way I could lose any weight was by being on a restrictive diet. That's fine short term but not realistic for the rest of your life. If I had known what a mess I would be being on this drug I never would have started it. Unless you've exhausted all other avenues do not take Depo. It's all marketing and even doctors do not realise how bad the side effects are. Thus the typical responses of doctors like not believing you when you tell them of symptoms you have or think you just need to eat better. Please, do yourself a favor and listen to me and others on here. Stay away from Depo!

I also had the same reaction. After my third pregnancy, I went on depo. First shot, no weight gain. After second shot, I blew up like a balloon. 40 lbs to be exact. I'm 5'7 and went from 150 to 190 lbs and am having the hardest time losing any of it

Did you ever lose the weight or stop taking the shot?

I was on Depo for about 18 years. Gained only about 20 lbs. total, which may have been just natural with aging (I am 52 now). Went off the Depo about 6 months ago and have been slowly losing a few pounds without trying. Feel very lucky. I loved the shot; it took away ALL period symptoms for me for all those years. And who loses weight in their 50's?! I was one of the very fortunate ones, I guess.

I run about 15 miles per week and lift weights 3-4 times a week. I gained weight and I have been unsuccessful at getting it off. I also did not begin consuming more calories than before, so I know it's not that. I will not take another depo shot EVER. Aside gaining weight and making weight loss difficult. I spot every day. It's just been a nightmare.
