My Story: I was 108 lbs and 5 ft and I got my first shot after my second son was about 9 months. I have specifically asked and my doctor said there are no side effects at all. During that time I was also breast feeding and I went to India for about 4 weeks. The trip was very exhaustive as there was wedding, running around places and I worked for a week from India and still continued to breast feed. I came back to US in Jan 2013 and continued to breast feed until my son was an year old and that was Feb 2013. I noticed that while I was in India I lost weight by about 6 lbs but as soon as I came back, no change in diet nor life style I gained 15 lbs in 3 months and tummy was gross, I looked like 4 months pregnant. I can never forgive my Doctor for lieing to me. Its June 2013 when I got my first period after the shot but its very light and dark brown. I don't even use napkin, I just have to use one section of toilet paper and everytime I pee change it...its that light. It has been a month and this light bleeding never stops. I have been running and excercising twice a week but that did not help loose weight. But I can definitely say that since I got my period..even though its lite my tummy looks a bit flatter than before. Oh! and one other thing is I have hypo thyroid, so until I was in India I took my meds regularly but after I came back stopped for 3 months straight. So I am not sure if my weight gain was due to stopping my meds and breastfeeding and depo provera or just Depo provera. I think its definitley depo provera and hope to come off the weight now that I am off of Depo. Anybody has lost weight after coming off of Depo without doing much?

I thought it was only me, I have been losing weight and have not cut out my fatty foods. I have gone down one size in a month. Even my mom and aunt that never notice when I lose weight are telling me that I am and what am I doing.

I'm 5'0 and weighed 134 throughout my high school years and never gained weight until i got on the Depo. I was on the depo for 1 year June 2011 to June 2012 (during that year i gained a total of 20lbs) after June of 2012 i got off of it and have been ever since. I do not recommend the shot at all to anyone.

I've just stopped taking depo after 10 years. No one should be on this drug unless as a last resort. It's a powerful drug and no long term studies have been done on women who have ben on it for a long time. I have gained over 50 pounds and cannot get it off. All of this talk about eating right, dieting is bs. The only way I could lose any weight was by being on a restrictive diet. That's fine short term but not realistic for the rest of your life. If I had known what a mess I would be being on this drug I never would have started it. Unless you've exhausted all other avenues do not take Depo. It's all marketing and even doctors do not realise how bad the side effects are. Thus the typical responses of doctors like not believing you when you tell them of symptoms you have or think you just need to eat better. Please, do yourself a favor and listen to me and others on here. Stay away from Depo!
