I am new here so I may have posted that last one wrong...basically I am interested in hearing from people who have had the LSH (Partial Hysterectomy). I am 35 years old and found out a few months ago that I have a fibroid in my uterine wall. I have had horrible painful heavy periods for several years now but never did go see a doctor until recently. I have had 4 children so I was not upset when the doctor suggested a partial Hysterectomy. I AM concerned, however, about the side effects and what happens sexually for a woman after having this procedure. I have heard the Vaginal Wall can shrink (LORD NO!) and orgasms no longer occur (MY GOD!) I have read some of the comments posted on here and would like to hear from more of you on this matter.

Hi Lychinut - I had LSH on June 16 for a Submucosal Fibroid and am VERY HAPPY with the results on all fronts. There's another thread between myself and Happy I Did It, follow this link for more information. I just noticed that you've already found it. Anyhow, here's the link:

I would go for it and if you're lucky enough to be able to have the LSH technique - go girl! I immediately felt better 2 days after surgery. You'll feel better sooner than you think and you'll have to put the breaks on because you've done too much. It surprised both my Husband and me. You'll know you've done too much because your tummy will hurt and you'll be extremely tired. I would estimate that most people undergoing LSH would be mostly healed in 4 weeks time. I'm still not vacuuming but I've also had to recover from a broken foot (incurred on February 20)where all I could do for about 3 months was sit on the couch with my foot above my heart so needless to say I wasn't at my best when I underwent surgery. I truly believe if I'd been stronger going in to surgery, I would have been stronger coming out.
Keep me posted, Kelly :-D

I am scheduled for LSH in late May 2007. I have several questions and wonder if those out there who have already had it could help answer these questions:
How long before you were driving again?
How long until you were back at work (deskjob)?
Was your primary longer term recovery issue fatigue? Could I satisfy that with shorter work days/naps?
Did you have any issues with a big tummy afterwards? (Been hearing horror stories from people with full hysterectomies about BIG tummies afterwards.)
Have you had a harder time maintaining your weight afterwards?
Thanks!

I had an LSH on April 19, 2007 and was driving about a week later but I was not on any pain medicine. I went back to work after 3 weeks but just half days and plan on going back full times after 4 weeks. I did have the "swelly belly" or I still get the swelly belly when I have done too much. The first week you are very tired but then after that you start coming around. The second week you are just bored but get tired very easily and the this week has been better than the second week but stuff does still tire me out easily. The only pain I have is across my pelvic bone and it's kind of a burning sensation but it's much more tolerable than menstrual cramps! Good luck it's really not that bad.

I had my LASH done last week. So far so good... I had my surgery at 1 in the afternoon and I was home by 6. I wasnt really having much pain until about 3 hours after I got home. My MD used some local anest where he put the camera in and when that wore off it hurt but the pain med took care of it. The worst part about it for me was waking up at 3 am with my shoulder hurting. My nurse at the hospital told me the gas might make my shoulder hurt afterwards but I thought he was nuts!! He was right...but i took 2 more vicodin and it was pretty much gone after that. Next day I was getting around pretty good...better than I thought I would since I have NO pain tolerance!! Had my surg. on a Tuesday and I was working {at a wine bar} by Friday. I drove 3 days afterwards with no prob. I have a 10month old and I can pick him up with no problem. My husband thinks I am over doing it.... I am still alittle sore, but everyday is getting better!! Md told me No workouts or sex until after New Years which is just fine by me!!

I will be going in on 2-5-08 and hoping for the best. I would really like to drive ASAP is anyone else driving soon after? How is sex after same, better or worse?? Any other problems besided the gas? How about walking?? Has anyone gotten their period after? I was told that sometimes a small piece of tissue sometimes is left and could cause some bleeding. I would love any information.

I had my LSH on August 28th, 2008, I kept my cervix and ovaries. I had literally no pain (took pain meds for 4 days continuously) after 4 days, I felt tired and that was it. Today, I am feeling really great. But, last week when I hung curtains, moved furniture and tried to do a sit up, I ended up back at the hospital with severe abdominal pain and the fear that I hurt myself internally. All was fine, but my abdominal area is swollen and I was put back on motrin and pain meds for a few days; I can't drive for another week and I have to delay exercising for an additional two weeks. I opted to wait until my post op visit before I try to have sex. I will be returning to work on September 30th. I feel ready to return to work. If you are considering this procedure, you should do it.

I underestimated the driving would take on my healing. I took a trip from Boston to Philly two weeks after surgery and it was hell. Every pothole, bump and turn were painful. After the weekend I spent two days in bed. It was a bad idea. My body wasn't ready. Good luck.
