I take 1500mg of Metformin daily for my type 2 diabetes and every time I eat eggs withing 30 mins to an hour I have stomach cramps and diarrhea. Are the two together the problem? I know Metformin can cause diarrhea, but I have managed to control that with antidiarrhea meds, but if I eat eggs it gets worse

I have the same issue with metformin and eggs. Hard boiled eggs don't seem to cause the issue for me. But scrambled or fried eggs with the meds and I'm a mess. Also, you mention taking anti-diahrrea medication to control the reaction to metformin. If you're not alergic try using peanut butter. It's a natural way to stop diarrhea.

I have been on 1500 mg for only a few weeks -- but I have narrowed down the cause for upset stomach and diarrhea to eggs as well. I usually eat 3 scrambled eggs in the morning (vegetarian) and I am just not able to do that anymore. Nothing else has this effect on me.

I'm type 1 diabetic and on 1000mg of metformin for several years. My doctor advised me that I cannot eat more than 2 eggs per day while on metformin. And if I get diarrhea, I should lower consumption to just one. During first a couple of months using metformin I didn't eat eggs at all, and included them after I was completely sure I'm ready. I started with one hard-boiled egg and with time I added one more, then started eating scrambled and poached eggs. For now, I haven't had any stomach issues.

took me many episodes to figure it out. But metformin and eggs equals diarrhea within 3 hours for me. Thanks for this message board, confirms my suspicions.

I take 1000 mg and eat no eggs but I get diarrhea really bad if I try to up the Met. Been on Met for years, not diabetic but A1C was slowly edging up.

I have constipation with diarrhea and heavy bleeding, could it be from metformin for prediabetes? Been taking it for 2 months. I'm also having painful stomach aches, backache, and fever which last for hours.

I am taking metformin 500 mg twice a day. I have tried having a serving of peanut butter when I have eggs other than hard boiled. I have had much fewer episodes of diarrhea and cramps. Stools have been firmer and much more comfortable to pass too. I don't have eggs everyday, but now I know that if I want them I can. I try not to have them more than two days in a row seems to be ok.
