Hello all, I just wanted some advice! My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer about 7 years ago. She's been in remission for sometime now, but the cancer was severe enough that she needed to have a mastectomy. I had researched a bit about a test called the BRCA1 test which is a blood test that can help determine a person's chance of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Since I have a first-degree relative (my mother) who has had breast cancer, I know there's a possibility that I could one day have it as well. I was interested in asking my physician about the test and whether or not he recommends that I have it done one day (when I'm a bit older, I'm only 19 right now). Would this be a good idea? If I should wait, how old should I be before considering this test? Thanks!
