Writing on behalf of my adult daughter who has intractable pain [has had two surgeries for TMJ - neither of which were successful]. Her pain, as well as pain meds, has been increasing over the years. She was once addicted to percoset and went thru withdrawal on her own, but was left with such severe pain, went back to pain meds. Several years ago she began seeing a local pain mgmt. doctor and he got her on Oxycoton - I'm not even certain how many she was taking a day - but it's a LOT! She went to a detox place in Florida this past Feb. and had to be rushed to the hospital on the 3rd day. They stopped her meds cold turkey and tried giving ?Suboxen? - which she told them it made her sick. The doctor at the hospital told her "they" should not have stopped her meds like that - she could have had a heart attack or stroke. She's been back home and on S/T disability from her job. She ran out of meds this past Wed. and I have been to the ER with her 6 hrs. + on Th. and back again yesterday {Fri.}. She has a script from a doctor who has treated her off and on for several years, but the ins. co. will not fill it till the 20th [4 days from now]. If I had the money, I would get the RX filled - just because it hurts more than I describe to see her so sick. She wants to get off pain meds, but has had more than one doctor tell her she'll never be out of pain - what can we do???? Also, now to go along with the TMJ, she has some severe issues with her back, i.e., bulging and tares in some discs, ?impinged? nerves, cysts and degeneration. She has been willing to endure some very painful procedures [discography], deep injections, etc. Then, there's nothing other than more injections recommended.
I'm sorry, there's so much more I could say and I honestly feel this is just a desperate attempt to find some answers, BUT when the ER doctors and others offer no help; where do you turn?
Thank you,
Morgan
