I am 14 years old and I have been having my period since I was 11 and it has never done this. usually it ends at 6-8 days which would be completely normal. as of this very moment, I have been on my period for exactly 12 days. on Friday I went to the doctors(for a sports physical for school) and that's when it started. in the first 2 days, it was a very very light period. the next 5 it was really thick and heavy. as of this moment, it's extremely light and it's like this really watery like blood but it's basically just so light that I might be able to consider it orange (not really ha). usually at the end of my periods it gets dark, like a brown. right now it is not dark at all. it's getting lighter and it looks like it's ending but then it just comes out as blood again and then goes back to being the normal clearish period it was before. what do I do and does anybody know how to help me end my period??? sharing your experiences with me could help as well (ie telling me if you've had this problem before or something). thanks.
(I do not take birth control, I don't plan on taking any birth control.) (could the fact that I am sick be affecting this?) (thanks)

Hello packback,
At the end of your post you say you are sick - from what disease? And are you taking any medications? Both of these reasons - sickness and certain medications, most commonly antibiotics, could lead to prolonged period. Practically, any stress on your body, be it disease or even emotional stress can affect the length and heaviness of your period. Not to mention that it's still considered fairly normal for your periods to be a bit strange during first few years after your first period,
Wish you all the best,
Nicole

Thank you for your response, nikols.
I am sick from a sinus infection, and I have refused to take any medication whatsoever due to the fact that I was afraid it might mess up my period. I do have depression but my mom will not let me take any medication for that as well. I am on no medication at all as of this very moment and I haven't been for the last 12/13 days.

Hi, it's possible that sinus infection contributed to your prolonged period - the infection puts a lot of stress on your body, and when your immune system is already weakened, it's quite possible for your periods to get messed up, as well. As far as antibiotic treatment for sinus infection is concerned, well, you already are in situation where your period is so long that antibiotics probably wouldn't change much what is happening with your period. Sorry if I misunderstood, but have you been on any medications 12/13 days ago?

(Excuse me if I was/am unclear about anything) I have not taken any medications or medicine, for that matter, for about 10 months now. The last kind of any pill I took was a Tylenol to cure a headache about 5 months ago. There is nothing recent that I think would be affecting my period.
