I just found out I have a pineal cyst.
My memory fails me pretty constantly.
I sleep a max of five hours and always fatigued.
I am a 45 year old male, who use to be a power house.
Body has since broken down with large scale orthopedic problems
My real difficulties started about 16 months ago when I lost consciousness, while stoking the old woodstove.
Has anyone heard of such a thing being caused by this "beign" cycst?
I'm also appalled, that anything besides brain matter in ones head can be treated so minutely!

I was diagnosed with a 1.5cm "benign appearing" pineal cyst in Oct 07. Since then, I have gone from DR to DR getting no resolution. I have constant headaches (feels like I am being stabbed in the back of the head) and constant pressure all day. I have double vision and just this morning was experiencing a flickering white light on the left side of my eye for about a minute or two. It was very disturbing. I have increased intracranial pressure and increeased intraocular pressure (excess eye pressure)... No DR wants to take me seriously and keep trying to blame all my issues on my weight. Yes, I am overweight but consistently losing weight (seeing a personal trainer) but the workouts are getting to be too difficult with all the head pressure. I have lost just over 5% of my body weight and by all statistics I should be feeling better. I am feeling worse only because the head pain is so intense and severe.
My webpage is www.caringbridge.org/visit/melodyvalier if anyone wants to read my full story. The best advice I can give is to perservere and keep being aggressive with your DR. You need to keep fighting until you find someone who will listen. So far, I know of the Skull Base Institute in L.A. and The Center for Cranial Base Surgery in NYC who has successfully performed surgery to remove pineal cysts.

8 years ago I was diagnosed with a 10mm pineal cyst. At this time the Doctors said it was impossible to get at and really shouldn't cause any problems anyway being benign and all. WRONG!! Pressure over my eyes 24-7, affected vision, loss of breath...hyperventilating 24-7, lack of sleep (6 hours max), fatigue of course and weight gain from being tired all the time. I'm looking to have it removed quite soon. Any feedback will be appreciated

hi i have recently been diagnosed with a pineal cyst. being that the consultant said it was no big deal i havent asked any questions. plus i had more important things to worry about i thought. i dont know how big it is. i have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. the symptoms i have seem to be very similar to alot of you but it is fibromyalgia. i cant help wondering if the cyst is causing it. apparently it can be caused by a lack of seratonin which i read somewhere can be cut off by the cyst. i get chronically tired but cant sleep or if i do not for long. i have pain all over my body which originally my doctor thought was arthritis. period pains. to be honest the list is endless. does anyone know anything cos life sucks at the mo and my family find it hard to be understanding when they can see no obvious signs like if i had the flu!! i feel guilty all the time when i dont get things done because it hurts to much or i am tired.

I ditto the same response. I was diagnosed this past week with a pineal cyst in my pituitary gland which is considered small, but I experience chronic headaches, fatique, pain all over my body, etc. I received the same response from the neurologist when he said that it is too small to cause headaches. I, do, however, take Wellbutrin every day to keep the saratonin up in my brain which does help the headaches but not much else. I oten think that I am the only one who needs to rest during the day or my body aches like crazy.

I've been following the posts & replies; with the exception of one (complaining about muscle spasms) I've had all the same symptoms...vertigo, loss of balance (I call it "tipping"), near blackouts, extreme nausea, shakes. I've had extreme fatigue, loss of interest in activities (some days)...I've had a CT scan, & an MRI. Attended with the Neurologist today who confirmed it is a pineal cyst. Mine is the size of a small marble...However, after "reiterating"my symptoms for the doctor, including "acute" sensitivity to light, sounds, & smells (which the doc's insist on saying "you smell things that aren't there". A SENSITIVITY to smells which I explicitly said are present around me ie: cooking, tobacco, perfumes, flowers...). I also listed how I sometimes see black images, or wispy shapes, out of my peripheral vision, which aren't there. I'm not a 'dummy' & all of this points to a neurological problem. Despite the MRI confirmation of a pineal cyst...the neurologist says the cyst isn't touching anything & informs that the cyst isn't the "root" cause of my other symptoms. It is separate & unrelated. Unfortunately, I'm being sent for more testing & referral to another specialist (for the symptoms). The neurologist says they will have to operate & remove the cyst only if it grows & begins causing compression. Then it is a "grave"issue.

I was recently diagnosed with a Pineal cyst and that was picked up because i was having terrrible vision problems, ok i have headaches and the pain behind my eyes can be quite severe but it was the problems with my eyes that caused me the most concern - i was finding that i too was VERY fatigued and was dropping off at work on the train on the bus anywhere but on awakening my eyes would not focus properly and i would have double vision. I am also disorientated not knowing where i was for a few moments until my sight returned to normal.
Does anyone else suffer this worrying symptom

Hi,
I've been following the posts for a couple of months now. I have a pineal cyst like most of you, with a lot of the same symptoms (fatigue, vision problems, trouble sleeping, pressure headaches, problems with my short term memory, irritability).
I first went to my GP about a year ago, complaining of extreme fatigue and double vision. She ordered a lot of blood work and an X-ray of my chest. Not surprisingly it all came back clear. I also went to have my eyes checked...a normal eye exam according to the doctor (apart from double vision, no depth perception, problems with my visual field and paretic eye muscles!!) I guess I wont be seeing that doctor again...
In June this year I finally convinced my GP to refer me to a neurologist, she ordered an MRI...and there was the pineal cyst. I was then referred to a neurosurgeon. He told me that he didnt believe the cyst was the cause of my symptoms...but the only way to find out was to surgically remove it. Which he won't do, because there are too many complications involved with the surgery. Im going to have an MRI follow-up in a year, and was told to look for signs of increased pressure in the brain... Thanks doc!!
Im only working part time now, because I dont have the energy to work a full day.
One of the worst things for me is that I feel like a hypochondriac. The people around me cant physically see my symptoms...and they dont understand the fatigue, its overpowering sometimes.
The only treatment I've had so far is with a specialised optician.
I've been training for about 8 months now. The motility of my eyes have improved and I can control my double vision better...but there is still a long way to go, and there is no guarantee that it can cure my vision problems. But it's a start...

Hi everyone,
I am in the hospital with my 14 month old son that was admitted to E.R. and then to Pediatric center and then very recently admitted to PICU, all within a 60 hour period. First, it started out with him vomiting, not much but enough came up to swallow it back down. This was at 4AM. All of the following day he was lethargic and couldn't keep anything down. By the next morning, I went ahead and took him to the E.R. Then he was admitted to Pediatric center for obvious reasons being he's still a baby. Then around 4:15 AM the third day he had his first seizure, starting with decelerated respiration and accelerated heartbeats, then to twitching of his arms, gurgling then vomiting blood (from wearing of the esophagus) and then rolling back of the eyes bubbling at the mouth and then to stiff arms and legs, lasting about 10 minutes. Nurses put him on adavan to relax his muscles. Later that day he had 3 more similar seizures. He had been moaning all night previous to the first( maybe a pain"headache"-definately uncomfortable cry) He has had a CT, MRI, EEG, and later is supposed to have a spinal tap. The doctor said he saw a lesion on the CT and on the MRI said it was a pineal cyst. He didnt say how big it was but did say there's "nothing he can do" The doc said that the spinal fluid is making the ventricles swell because theres an obstruction. He also said that he believed that this was caused by a virus, not narrowed down yet as to which one. As Ive read from previous entries this cyst on the penial gland is often discovered mistakenly. I would like to know is this something that could last for life or just this time?

I recently recovered from a sickness that turned out to be West Nile Fever (terrible headaches, fever were the symptoms). As part of the process, I took a CT scan, and it was discovered (on a follow-up MRI) that I have a 2.1 cm x 1.6 cm pineal cyst. I am 32, fairly active, and in fairly good shape. I have noticed (and one always wonders if it is just aging, and forgets how long the symptoms have been present) that I have great troubles focusing (especially when reading; I can't focus on a letter/word in front of me as my vision will "bounce"), I believe my balance is greatly reduced (and this fluctuates in severity to unnoticeable to clumsiness), and my short-term memory (most noticeable with names, recalling information from readings) seems to be considerably reduced. Fatigue has always been a symptom as well. However, none of these symptoms seem to be as severe as those described in many of the other posts. Yet, the memory item, as well as the focus item, are very disconcerting. I have a follow-up appointment set with a neurologist, but I strongly assume he will brush aside my concerns as well. I would love to hear more from people who have experienced these symptoms, and to hear the names of neurologists (any in the Midwest?) that take the symptoms of pineal cysts, or are very educated on them.
Thanks much!

wow. i fit right in here. same symptoms. headaches, fatigue, vertigo, weakness, numbness/tingling all over, vision disturbances, problems concentrating, memory loss, also major swallowing difficulties and chest pain. i can only work about half the time - which is a big problem since i'm a teacher. i've been having symptoms for 10 months and i finally had my first mri a few days ago - i thought i might have multiple sclerosis - turns out all they found was 2 small pineal cysts - doc said the same thing many of yours have said - asymptomatic - not a big deal... he also said that was easy for him to say because it's not his brain... i just want a doctor that listens and is willing to believe maybe he/she doesn't know how i feel... anyway - i'm in the dfw, tx area - does anyone know of good doc around here?
