Hi. I was planning pregnancy. I went to see my doctor to check my body`s condition and I end up diagnosed with COPD. I had no symptoms at all. My breathing was sometimes heavy, and I was coughing, but not enough to suspect a thing. Anyway, I have to take certain meds. Are COPD meds harmful to unborn babies? Can I have a baby and treat my condition in the same time?

Hi. Almost any drug is harmful to unborn babies. I was diagnosed with COPD. I was planning pregnancy too and I had a long talk with my doctor. It is very hard to be pregnant in such circumstances. I know safety for use of drugs, such as Solu-Medrol, Depo-Medrol and Adlone, during pregnancy has not been established. Magnesium sulfate is safe to use during pregnancy. Also, safety for use drugs like Brethaire and Bricanyl, during pregnancy, has not been established. The same thing goes for drugs such as Combivent and Albuterol. So far I am still treating my condition. I need more time to consider pregnancy again.
