I had hemorroid banding yesterday. What an experience. The doctor said it wouldn't hurt, but it hurt like crazy when he put the analscope in and turned it back and forth. When he finished he told me to get dressed and I could leave. He said I might be a little "uncomfortable" for a day, but just a Tylenol would be all I'd need. He left the room. But as soon as I sat up I began the most terrible cramps. I rushed to the toilet and sat there through contraction after contraction, with blood, mucus and yellow fluid flowing from my anus. The nurse came in to the treatment room, and wanted me to leave, but I couldn't get off the toilet!
I finally got dressed and called my husband to help me. I leaned on his arm because I was doubled over in pain, and he took me to another washroom down the hall because they needed the treatment room for other patients. After being in there for awhile, I lay down across a row of chairs because I was so dizzy I couldn't sit up. Finally the nurse gave me a bed to lie on, and got orders to give me Ativan sublingual. I took that and I took 2 Tylenol, but cramps were still coming wave upon wave.
After an hour or so, I managed to stagger out to the car and my husband drove me home. The cramps continued all night. I took 3 Tylenol, and it didn't stop. I knew I had reached my daily limit of Tylenol, too. So finally at 2 a.m. I took an OXYcocet which I had left over from knee surgery a few years ago ( I know, I know, you aren't supposed to do that but I was desperate)...which didn't completely stop the cramps but allowed me to get an hour or so of sleep.
In the morning I phoned the doctor's office and he Rxd Torodal which helps a bit with the pain. But I finally found something to stop the cramps on my own! If you have this problem post hemorroid banding, go and get OTC Life "Muscle and Back Pain Relief" tabs (I bought them at Shoppers Drugs). They have Tylenol (acetaminophen) 500 mg and Methocarbanol 400 mg ...what a relief , indeed!
I since have read in another forum that Methocarbanol is an effective muscle relaxant.
