I had my hemorrhoidectomy 2 days ago, Monday, Aug. 5th and I have to say it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be! I had a large protruding external and a few internal hemorrhoids. I developed hemorrhoids during my 2nd pregnancy and they just progressively got worse. I've had them for about 12 years and wish I had dealt with them a long time ago! I did banding for 5 internals back in March which reduced them in size but there were more hemorrhoid and they ended up coming back. So that procedure was no good. I was supposed to do another banding in May but we ended up moving back here so I had to wait until I could get an appointment. I was scheduled for a banding but after the Dr. saw my hemorrhoids she thought it'd be better to cut them off. At this point I was surprised, scared and somewhat relieved that they'd finally be removed once and for all. We scheduled for Monday and I read these forums, anxiously waiting. I didn't do anything special beforehand to prep since we're on a tight budget. The day of surgery: I did 2 fleet enemas and got ready to go to the surgery. I arrived at the hospital and got checked in. My husband was with me thank god! I had to take everything off, including my earrings and wedding ring! They then took my blood, gave me lidocaine to numb the area where they'd put the iv. line. The dr. came in and explained what she was going to do. She said since I had about 5 internal hemorrhoids that she wasn't going to remove all of them as that could result in the narrowing of my anus which would make things way worse than they were. And she was going to remove the external one. So I got to say bye to my Hunny and they wheeled me to the surgery room. They gave me anesthesia to knock me out and within minutes I was out. Next thing I knew I was waking up, still in the surgery room. I was scheduled at 10:45 am but we were running early so I actually went in around 10:30 and was done a little after 12pm! Apparently I freaked out upon waking up, I guess I was crying hysterically and calling my mom. (She passed away last yr after having knee surgery. ) So I finally calmed down enough and they wheeled me to the recovery room. I was a bit groggy but right away I had to go pee so the nurse helped me walk to the bathroom. I thought it would be hard or I wouldn't be able to go but as long as I relaxed I was able to go! Meanwhile all I could feel was a tightening feeling in my butt. I got myself dressed and my hubby was allowed into the recovery room with me. I was given apple juice, beef broth and I drank them down quick! (I hadn't eaten anything since the night before!) But I felt like throwing up every time I'd take a drink so I slowed down but managed to drink them up. Then I started feeling a discomfort, kind of like having a bad hemorrhoid flare up..I couldn't get comfortable no matter how I sat on the recliner. The nurse asked if I wanted pain meds and of course I said yes! Lol..she gave me 2 percosets and that helped big time! They finally released me and we went to Walgreen's to fill my prescription for Oxycodone w/Acetaminophen, Diazepam and Dulcolax (stool softener) then went home. Everytime I would stand up for longer than a cpl minutes I would get a dizzy and nauseous feeling. So I laid down trying to get rest but with 3 boys aged 5, 3, &1 1/2 yrs old it gets hard to relax! Thankfully my hubby took them all out and closed the door letting me relax. I slept for a half hr but felt restless. I'm used to cooking dinner, tending to my boys, my usual, everyday schedule. So I got up and didn't have hardly any pain, it was more of a discomfort and tightening in my anus area. And of course the nausea everytime I'd stand up longer than a minute. I tried eating a banana, just a small piece and I almost threw up! So I'd go and lie down every few minutes to make the nausea go away. I stayed on my pain med schedule so I wouldn't feel too much pain but the funny thing is that there wasn't hardly any pain, if any! It was more discomfort more than anything. We had my hunny's cousin stop by to drop off a fan and milk of magnesia for me. I was able to visit with her and laugh (as long as I squeezed my buttcheeks so as not to affect my stitches!) But the nausea from the anesthesia was awful, I couldn't eat but 2 or 3 bites of my dinner. My sweet hubby made me a nice hot bath (as hot as i could stand!) And that relaxed me sooo much and made me feel better! I also threw up but felt better after that. I sat in the tub for about 15 mins and got out feeling so much better. Finally it was bedtime so I took 1 percoset as 2 of them were too strong for me! And I crashed out and slept good the whole night! To be continued under Day 2 of Hemorrhoidectomy not so bad surgery!

Good to see you had a pretty good experience. I have hemorrhoidectomy scheduled soon. I am nervous of course, and at first thought of cancelling after reading all the horror stories. I only have one internal grade3 prolapsed hemorrhoid to be removed. Mine doesn't cause me no pain really, experienced bleeding and mine comes out especially when I am active. I'm 28 years old and love being active....so I am goin to do this. Just wondering if you healed up well? My doctor told me to expect a week of pain. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks
