I just started taking Yasmin birth control. For the entire first pack I bled and was taking antibiotics. After the first pack I stopped the antibiotics and my bleeding stopped as well. During the next few weeks I had unprotected sex twice. Also in the equation is the fact that I had a colposcopy four days before I expected my period. The doctor said I would experience a brown discharge from the colposcopy which has occurred. However, my period did not come on the first day of the sugar pills. I don't know if this means I'm pregnant or because I just started the pills and had a surgical procedure done that I'm just getting used to everything. Can someone give me some answers?

Why were you taking antibiotics along with the first pack? Have you been taking them for the whole month? Antibiotics like rifampin, penicillins, tetracylines, trimethoprim, co-trimoxazale and other can make bc pills less effective by making it hard for your body to absorb the hormones making your body get rid of the hormones faster. Lower levels of hormones may not be as effective.

During the first week of taking birth control pills a person should use a back-up contraceptive method as they may not be fully protected.

I honestly don’t think that colposcopy has anything to do with your period. They are not related. Colposcopy can not influence your ovulation. Birth control pills on the other hand can mess up your menstrual cycle until your body gets used to the excessive hormones. You may even miss a period or two, or experience just some light discharge.
This happens when you are on bc pills.

If you are still concerned that you may be pregnant, you may do a test in order to determine it.
