It will not heal on its own. Go to the Dr before it gets worse.. Easier to fix it now than wait and it get more conplicated

I had many surgeries that made things worse every time! Now I have a new fistula that I PEE from my vagina from the surgeries to try to fix original rectal fistula! If you do your research , the surgeries have less percentage of correcting it then leaving it alone! Now I'm left with a prolapse, several types of fistulas and the original one was small which is now large from the surgeries! I wish wish wish I'd left it alone!

You should have a colonoscopy done confirm if it's still there or not. Best way to find out.

I also have a rectovaginal fistula I had gotten from my first pregnancy I got cut to the forth degree and at first it just passed gas or when I had a loose stool it'd come out the front too, now I just had my second son via C-section and the pressure from him sitting on it made the fistula bigger I finally worked up the nerve because I was too embarrassed and tried to avoid it for so long to see a colon and rectal surgeon he had also found I have a tear in my anal sphincter muscle that makes me not able to hold my bowels as normal he said it's about 80% use since I have two kids I don't have the time or anyone to watch my kids from the down time of it at the moment and have to hold off a little longer. My worry is should I sue my OB for malpractice or what would you do in my situation

I too developed a Rectovaginal fistula after having had radiation and chemotherapy. The fistula became evident after I had a CT with oral and rectal contrast. I must tell you that during the CT with the rectal contrast I experienced so much pain that I screamed. Anyway, I have been coping with the fistula for 4 months. The only option I have been offered is a colostomy which I am not anxious to have. I continue to remove feces from the vagina and I douch frequently to keep myself clean.
I am hoping for natural healing but that is a way-and-see situation. I have read that wild oil of oregano combined with olive oil can help but I have not yet tried it.

Hi I actually had a sort of rectovaginal fistula after the birth of my first son last year. I did have surgeries an de they were what solved it for me not fun!!! But much better now. That said I also was seeking non operation options and found out that Ayurveda has different very successful ways of dealing with these issues you could check it out. Good luck brave woman! It sucks i know but you will be ok!

I developed this after a acute diverticulitis for the 1st time in my life. After 2 to 3 weeks of 2 antibiotics my 2nd ct scan shows the fistula are closing on their own and doesnt need surgery. I think I may have reinjured myself after driving.Because I now feel like I had surgery and now I'm back on antibiotic a and 800mg ibuprofen and a beating. Please be careful.

I'm going through the same thing right now.. I have a Rvf which is 15 mm in size. The doc says there is a 50-50 chance that it will heal. My baby is two months and 2 weeks old. I really do not want to go through surgery again.. I just got a surgery done 10 days back coz some tissues hadn't healed /joined together post delivery..and i only had a second degree tear, now getting one more done, is very depressing. If like to know, While you were dealing with the fistula, did you have to wear pads? Coz my discharge is not continuous but it's there. I'm scared that I might have an episode while I'm going about things normally.. My gynac didn't even check for a fistula when I told her that I had gases passing through the vagina.. It's only after I went to a specialist, did I know what's happened.. Is there anything you did differently that you think might have helped heal it?

Hello.. I had total hysterectomy robotically. when the surgeon did the surgery instead of one hour he took three and a half hours and said that i had a lot of adhesions. My release from the hospital was suppose to be next day after surgery but I got released after 13 days due to some complication or the other . Now home and resting and feeling good everyday but one week at home and I noticed gas and fowl smelling discharge from my vagina. Called the doctor his nurse said its normal to have discharge . When k went for post Opp check up my surgeon confirmed I have rectovaginal fitsula. He de comedies the barium rectal X-ray and ct scan that is schedulers next week. Your note that you healed on your own is giving me a lot of hope. I am not oppose to surgery but if it heals on its own God will answer my prayers. My experience at the hospital was very devastating as I was told its minor surgery, I guess I am a case of bad luck. Hoping to heal soon on its own . Praying for a miracle to happen.
Would like to know if you know of anyone else whose situation healed over time.
Thank you
