Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I have just been told I am going to need my sigmoid colon removed ( they also suspect a colovaginal fistula. I have had 6 major abdominal surgeries in the past, have serious issues with abdominal adhesions, extensive diverticulosis, 4 time history of diveritculitis, twice with abcesses requiring hospitalization. I lost my daughter Jennifer age 31 July 4th 2008 and currently have full guardianship of my wonderful grandson Nathan soon approaching his 11th birthday. I am terrified, worried about complications, and at the age of 52 wondering how long my recovery will be. 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and started taking 75mcl of synthroid, after 2 weeks of no improvement of symptoms, I called my endocrinologist and was told I was had dangerously low levels of Vitamin D, and am now taking 50,000 units once a week. My last major abdominal surgery 12 years ago to remove a large ovarian cyst and ovary was a 7 1/2 hour surgery. My gyno told me the adhesions were so bad it took him 6 hours just to get to the problem. If anyone has faced this situation before, or has experience with this surgery I would greatly appreciate your comments. Under normal circumstances I would be okay and confident but with past experience I am truly afraid. My diveriticuli run end to end of my large colon. I have told my surgeon I am not willing to lose anymore bowel than the sigmoid. My sister-in-law just had this surgery 3 months ago, and is still having problems. Please share any information you may have that may help my relieve my fear.
Thanks all Cindy
